a directv subscriber can watch HBO max on Apple TV if their Apple TV is newer than v 3 of Apple TV.

I dumped AT&T/DIRECTV early this year after my girlfriend gave me Apple TV, and switched to Spectrum TV Choice (that's streaming, not cable). I've got the HBO subscription with that, and yesterday I installed HBO Max on all my devices and was able to log in for free with my existing Spectrum account. Seems okay. It's the same as HBO, but there are also television programs and movies not shown on HBO, and some original content as well. Can't complain, because it's no additional cost for me.

Yes you can watch HBO Max on Apple TV on gen 4 and Apple TV 4K. I’ve got to say though, the thing im disappointed in when it comes to HBO Max is a lack of 4K content. Everything is capped at 1080P right now.

I don’t know how soon I’d expect it. Looks like if you want to watch Doom Patrol in 4K you watch it on DC Universe and if you want to watch in 1080P you can watch it on HBO Max.

I’d be willing to bet that when 4K finally comes that it will be in the Max app only. It’s pretty clear they want people off Apple TV channels ASAP.

I’ve not been able to figure out how to get “Up Next” to default to the Max app over the TV app so I’m switching my subscription to go through Comcast.
