When I open “Control Other Speakers & TV” from my iPhone or iPad, the devices listed are displayed by room name rather than the device name. So, instead of Apple TV and HomePod mini, it shows Living Room and Living Room. Is there a way to change this to display the device name?

Yes, just rename the devices in their respective settings.
When I change the name of the Apple TV or HomePod, it changes the name as displayed in the Home app, but they’re both still displayed as “Living Room” in the “Control Other Speakers & TV” interface. 🤔

Strange, my Apple TVs, Airport Express connected speakers and Airplay 2 speakers all have the names given to them in the “Control Other Speakers & TV” interface.

Do you have them assigned to rooms within the Home app? It seems that by doing so, they take on the name of the room.

Odd. I just noticed I have the same thing going on albeit randomly.

I have an AppleTV 4k in the living room. Its called Apple.TV 4k.
I have an AppleTV in the office. Its called AppleTV.
I have 2 HomePods (Stereo pair) in between the living room and kitchen so I assigned them to kitchen. They are called Kitchen....for some reason....

So I just assigned them to the dining room to see what it would do. In 'control other speakers and tvs' it renamed them to dining room.

So then I renamed them to HomePods. And it worked. All my devices in the control other speakers section are labeled correctly. I think you already basically did this? Not sure if it will help... maybe try changing the name just a little bit like Apple TV instead of AppleTV. Who knows...HomeKit has become self aware and its goal is to troll people...

The problem seems to be that if you don’t enter a custom name for your Apple TV or HomePod in the Home app, they default to the room name. I would like to stick with the default names and have those displayed rather than the room names. I think I‘ll send some feedback on this to Apple.

Since you like the default names, try entering the default name assigned as your custom name. I changed my ATV 4K name to "ATV 4K 2017", not sure what the default was. I entered "HomePod mini" for it, again not sure what the default name was. If you have multiple devices of the same kind, for example multiple HomePod minis, it makes since to give each a unique name, otherwise you might get confused about which one the name refers to. The system will know though since it can look at the serial numbers, but it might not be so easy for you to know exactly which HomePod mini you select in Home app if they all have the same name.
