apple tv and marantz nr1501 receiver

I just wanted to make sure this receiver will work with the new apple tv for streaming music from a laptop. The set up would be apple tv to hdmi in of receiver. The receiver hdmi out would be to a flat screen tv. This way, I shouldn't have to have the flat screen tv on to do this, just the laptop and receiver?
