Apple TV+'s first feature-length 3D animated film "Luck" is now available to watch in the U.S. a few hours earlier than promised. Apple is promoting the film with a full-page takeover on its homepage, with characters from the film appearing in several spots.

Created by Skydance Animation, "Luck" revolves around an unlucky person named Sam Greenfield who suddenly finds herself in the never-before-seen "Land of Luck," where she must unite with magical creatures to turn her luck around. Sam partners with a lucky black cat named Bob as they embark on a quest that could change her luck forever.

The film stars the voices of Eva Noblezada (Sam), Simon Pegg (Bob), Jane Fonda (the Dragon), Whoopi Goldberg (the Captain), and others.

"Luck" and other Apple TV+ content can be watched in the Apple TV app across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV box, select Xbox and PlayStation consoles, select smart TVs, on the web at tv.apple.com, and on select other platforms. Apple TV+ costs $4.99 per month in the U.S., with a free seven-day trial available.

I’ve been looking forward to this. An actual family show. I’ve been watching Amber Brown and it has been fantastic. A family show that feels authentic without the need to be edgy our rated TV-MA to be relevant. I enjoyed the new Fresh Prince of Bellaire on Peacock, but it felt like they were trying to hard to make “real”!

These two shows along with Ted Lasso find a grove that fills a void in current programming. One that fits Apple Perfectly.

Doesn't look too bad.
Skydance has been picking up heavy hitters - John Lasseter is the head of Skydance Animation, which is also why he's been bringing friends along - Alan Menken is composing their next film, Spellbound, and John Ratzenberger has a part in this movie.

(it's also possibly why Apple made the deal to handle distribution of both films).

This has been my frustration. I don’t understand why all adult oriented content needs to be TV-MA these days. As an adult, I have no desire to have my ears assaulted by overly vulgar language or to watch soft porn. Sure I occasionally watch things I wouldn’t want my young kids to see, but most of the reasons I wouldn’t want my kids to watch something apply just as much to adults who just want to watch a good story without any indecency.

Did SkyDance get a lot of the talents from the original Pixar?
The animation studio's in Madrid - they made a few movies prior to being purchased by Skydance. I'm not sure how much talent Lasseter's siphoned off from Pixar since his departure.

Looks pandering, campy and desperate to me. Does Apple think People are just gonna go out and buy an expensive iPad in this economic climate because of some animation? Just be honest with us, say, Buy our expensive iPad and also get a TV+ Sub too so we can make lots more money. Thanks!

Poor choice of emoji for a movie’s marketing. At first glance, it looked like rotten tomato rating. Only after checking carefully, realized that it was clover 🍀

Looks pretty fun (but I always watch my trailers on mute to avoid spoilers, so I'm only talking visuals). But yeah, the character model for the lead does look like every other animated cartoony human most places.

I wonder, if Steve Jobs was still alive would he try to form a new "Pixar" to make animated films in house.
Unlikely. In his autobiography it's mentioned that he only bought into Pixar as he thought the hardware side of the business would be successful, and would probably never have even considered buying it if it was only about animation. The animation side was pretty small at that time and only produced 1 or 2 shorts a year.

He did grow to love the animation side of it, personally funding some of the early ones when they were strapped for cash.

Wouldn't it be wild if Jobs started a "Pixar" for Apple TV+, personally funding it with the sale of the Disney shares he got from the sale of Pixar to Disney in the first place...
