Starting today, the Apple TV app is available on the Nvidia Shield, a streaming device powered by the Android TV platform.

With the addition of the Apple TV app, Nvidia Shield users can access the Apple TV+ streaming service with a subscription, TV shows and movies purchased or rented from the iTunes Store, and content from Apple TV Channels.

The Apple TV app works with the built-in Google Assistant on the Nvidia Shield, allowing users to use "OK Google" voice commands to navigate directly to specific Apple TV+ shows or movies, control playback, and more.

The Apple TV app has been rolling out to a wide variety of platforms in recent months, including the PlayStation, Xbox, and Roku. The app is also available on the "Chromecast with Google TV" dongle, which is also powered by the Android TV platform.

Does anyone know if its going to be a watered down version then the Apple TV version?

The Nvidia Shield is nothing short of an outstanding piece of tech. I had been laughing off all the so-called upscaling features for years - until the Shield made me a believer.

Looking forward to the day Apple will be welcoming Nvidia back on board.

Nvidia Shield is wayyyy better than Apple TV, upscale and processing power are insane, you have to try it to believe it! And support is top notch and last for many year, like they do for their GPU or Apple for their hardware !

if you have a 4K OLED TV, Apple TV "4K" is very average at best if you want top visual quality for your 4K HDR Dolby content that truly exploit your high end TV vs Nvidia Shield, for real

Waiting for some douche in Dayton, OH to complain about the Shield remote not being found in the Find My app.
Come on now, there’s plenty of douches in your town complaining about it’s lack of Find My support too.

Drlamb instead of dislike every comments that say Nvidia Shield is a top product. Maybe try both on a top TV with high quality content first ? Apple can't be the leader for every single product they made.
Don't get me wrong Apple TV is not useless because of ecosystem synergies but from a technical standpoint and visual quality Nvidia Shield is objectively miles ahead. Just look at some comparisons !

I've found the apps are higher quality on tvOS than on AndroidTV. There is no equivalent to Infuse on AndroidTV.

I've also read that AndroidTV has started to have essentially homescreen ads. I know they can be turned off, but this is a big downside. I just don't trust Google as much.

The Dayton douche is one of my relatives. The lone Android guy in the family. Should be VERY obvious that as a Navy town, Bremerton is just fine. However, there are Army facilities in Tacoma. When I use the restrooms at the exchange, FTA is on the walls, stalls, everywhere.

I found the apple tv app on nvidia store now, but when i load it, i cannot move past the "start watching" button. Anyone confirm if they can?

PS: i had to use the nvidia remote not the controller. The controller buttons do not work with the UI. So it kinda sucks? not sure why.

all good.

Nice, now I just wish I had the newer Shield with Dolby Vision support but I can't justify upgrading just for that. Maybe come the next model I'll upgrade. Though I do like the AppleTV I just need Plex bitstream support so I feel stuck with the Shield line.

Do you know if you get bitstream support for hi-res audio using Plex, with a 2019 Shield as an endpoint?

Fantastic news! Just installed it and signed in on my Shield tube TV. Slowly moving to unplugging my Fire TV Stick so I can use my Shield TV. The more expensive devices like the Shield TV, Apple TV and the Fire TV Cube do tend to give smoother faster user experiences I find.
