A large part of the reason I haven’t tried Apple TV+ is because I didn’t have a way to watch it on my TV.

I’m using a Pioneer KRP-500M, which still rivals the best TV’s on the market, but only has two HDMI inputs so I’m limited to a TiVo and an Xbox One.

Any successful streaming service should be on as many devices as possible so it’s accessible to every consumer. I doubt many consumers were purchasing an Apple TV specifically to watch Apple TV+.

Time to upgrade that old tech! You're missing out on HDR and 4K anyway.

Apple if you ear me I am very disappointed by Apple TV and HomeKit on my lg cx because I cannot SEND the sound FROM my tv TO airplay speakers!

i wanted to buy homepods in stereo but if I can’t have the sound from my tv and PlayStation what is the point?

that’s sad! Do something 😋

Does it support 4K as my Apple TV 4 doesn’t.

I have to say TV+ looks the best of any of my streaming services, it’s so sharp and I am not even sure if I am watching in Ultra HD 4K
I would assume that the console has to support 4K:

Xbox One S/X
Xbox Series X/S
PS4 Pro
PS5

I have an Xbox One S in the living room entertainment center - so looking forward to AppleTV+ for it...
good luck!

The KRP-500M still looks better than most if not all 4K TV’s I’ve seen ;). I’m not concerned about HDR yet since it has an extremely high contrast ratio.

When the time comes to replace it, I will go with a LG OLED since that’s the only TV that I’d even consider a potential upgrade.

Yeah, i consider a version of the app that doesn’t let you watch the extras or director cut versions of films you bought, crippled.

Watch it on your ATV then. I’d say the majority of people don’t even bother with the extras these days.

I expect most people using the app on other devices see it as a way of merely watching their movies in another room without forking out for another ATV. Simple really.

The KRP-500M is an awesome Plasma. But a good OLED wipes the floor with it.
EDIT: I see you mentioned the LG OLEDS. Yeah, exactly what I mean when I say a good OLED :)

I’d have to see it to believe it, but so far I’m still extremely impressed with the KRP-500M. It was pricey but it’s lasted over a decade all the while looking better than the best TV’s on the market. I have it calibrated with Dynamic Range Extension set to high so the picture is nothing short of breathtaking.

I’ve heard it holds up next to a LG OLED, and only recently has there even been 4K content that would make an “upgrade” worth consideration.

Note sure why but the AppleTV app on my Xbox Series X is not showing Dolby Vision, just HDR.
The Netflix app via the Xbox does sow in Dolby Vision. TV is LG C8.

If you wanted another HDMI device, could you use the HDMI input on your XBOX one? I do that so that I can still use my XBOX 360 via the XBOX One input via the XBOX TV App. Works well and would for any other HDMI input. You might know already but if not maybe it's helpful.

Thanks for the idea. It would work, but the HDMI input on the Xbox One compresses the video/audio instead of just passing it through so it degrades the signal.

I like what Microsoft was trying to do with it (Kinect was supposed to control the TV, cable box, etc.), too bad they didn’t implement it better.

Came here to say this. On the Xbox Series X, video is sadly limited to 4K HDR10 rather than Dolby Vision. Console confirms Dolby Vision is supported by the tv (and so does the ATV 4K also connected to the TV). Really a shame they didn’t support it in the app.

Are you certain this is the case for the satellite input? I say that only because it shows it being 1080p on mine... and I can't see the difference but them I'm watching on a 1080i Plasma.
