just updated my macbook for the Apple tv app to buy tv shows. however it only gives me 3 tab options of Watch Now, Movies and Library. Why can I not get TV Shows, Kids or Sports options?

Are you logged into it? If you tap on the Library tab and then back on Watch Now, do the other categories appear?
 
Yes I am logged in and tried that and nothing. Also found this in preferences, so it allows for movies but not tv shows for automatic downloads.

I've been searching for some info about this issue, but haven't been able to find anything yet. Have you tried rebooting your Mac? When you're in the iTunes app, can you see the TV Shows category?
 
I have had a decent look too and found nothing. I tried rebooting multiple times and still get those three tabs. In iTunes I can only get the music category.
 
Ah interesting. It almost sounds like there's content restrictions on your account.
 
I thought that too, but even when i log out i still don't get the option for those tabs.
 
Are you on macOS Catalina or the Big Sur beta? You may need to contact Apple Support. I'm stumped, but am curious to understand why it's happening too.
 
Although I have an ATV+ subscription, I logged out but could still see all of the categories, so it doesn't seem to be subscription related.
 
I just downloaded Catalina today to get 10.15.6. I have contacted apple and they didn't come back with anything useful so this is a mystery that may never be solved. Hmmmm very strange I also got the subscription to see if that would change and it didn't. Do you know if theres a way to reinstall the app?
 
Do you have another device to check how the ATV app looks there? That might help rule out whether it's the app or your account.

Yes, you should be able to delete and reinstall the app using the normal steps.
 
Another question: are you in the US or have you made region changes? Some of the features aren't available in all regions, but are in the US.

I'm in the New Zealand store, that could possibly be why. I thought about that too however even when i log out it still doesn't give me the option. I was on the Canada one before New Zealand and that didn't work either.

While talking with Apple Support, did you mention all of the regional changes? Here's Apple's list of countries for what media services are available in each, which I haven't reviewed. It's from last year but I can't find a more recent version.


I read on an Apple discussion something similar happened to someone who changed regions a couple of times, and the only resolution was to erase and reinstall the OS.

I've run out of ideas to suggest.
 
Ahhh i think I found it as new zealand doesn't have tv shows listed on that list. Thanks for all your help!
