This past November, the Apple TV app made its debut on Xbox gaming consoles, now, the Apple TV app is gaining support for Dolby Vision on Xbox, offering viewers improved high dynamic range paired with Dolby Atmos for a truly cinematic experience.

Xbox says that to enable Dolby Vision for Apple TV on Xbox, users must first have a compatible TV that supports high dynamic range. With compatible TVs, users will find a new toggle under "TV & display options" in their Xbox settings tab to enable Dolby Vision. Additionally, not all Apple TV content will initially support Dolby Vision.
To start experiencing it with a Dolby Vision compatible TV, you need to have “Allow Dolby Vision” enabled and checked in Settings > General > TV & display options > Video Modes on your console. You can also confirm if content is available in Dolby Vision by looking for the Dolby Vision logo at the bottom of the Movie / Show’s description page in the Apple TV app or during playback by pressing the B button on your controller.
The Apple TV app, which previously only lived on Apple devices, has gradually been making its way to other devices such as the PS4, and select smart TVs. This is part of Apple's recent strategy to expand its services business to more customers.

Microsoft should enforce one separate app per show, just like Apple said of Microsoft and game pass to be eligible in App Store. Then Apple would have to make like a dozen or so apps covering all the shows on Apple TV plus.

Does anyone know what day/time this week Dolby Vision will be available on the app? At time of writing the AppleTV app still launches in HDR10 on my Series X + VIZIO P65Q9-H1, regardless of 60Hz mode on Series X.

The announcement is obviously synonymous w/ the tvOS 14.6 release, but I've uninstalled/reinstalled the app, reset the app from within it, logged out/in, and attempted to manually update; still no dice for me. Hope it arrives by Friday for this week's episodes of Mosquito Coast/Mythic Quest.

Edit: 05/24/21 - 5:20 PST - The AppleTV app has been updated via the Queue in My Games & Apps on my Series X. I was required to sign in again upon launch. It now launches in SDR, and will play Dolby Vision/SDR content accordingly; like the Disney+ app. So happy we finally got proper Dolby Vision for this app. The AppleTV catalog has the largest of any in regard to Dolby Vision/Atmos titles. This is BIG.

Edit 2: There appears to be a bug that will not allow any 4K HDR (HDR10) titles to play in HDR10 while the Xbox is in 60Hz mode; they launch in SDR, and appear washed out. The Martian, The Revenant, The Big Lebowski are a few titles exhibiting this when the console is in 60Hz mode, but if you change the Series X to 120Hz, all codecs on this app launch fine: HDR10/SDR/Dolby Vision.

Same here. Seriex X and LG C7 OLED, no Dolby Vision when playing movies in app, only HDR.

Maybe…. Tomorrow?

Edit: restarted my Xbox and it’s working now!

Nice to see Xbox holding the high ground here. Allowing Apple TV on Xbox, without stipulating the need to review every app and piece of content it streams to the console….
