Apple plans to make its TV app available for Android smartphones, according to Twitter user ShrimpApplePro, who accurately leaked the iPhone 14 Pro's Dynamic Island hardware design and the box for the device. The leaker claims Apple is testing the app internally and plans to release it soon, but they did not provide a specific timeframe.

With the Apple TV app, Android smartphone users would have a more convenient way to access the Apple TV+ streaming service, instead of having to rely on tv.apple.com on the web. The app would also provide Android users with access to MLS Season Pass next year. In the Android ecosystem, the Apple TV app is currently limited to streaming devices powered by the Android TV operating system, including the Chromecast with Google TV.

Other non-Apple devices with the Apple TV app include the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, Roku and Amazon Fire TV streaming sticks, Roku TVs, and select smart TVs from LG, Samsung, Sony, and Vizio. The app can be used to stream Apple TV+, buy or rent TV shows and movies from the iTunes Store, and more.

Availability of the Apple TV app on Android smartphones could help to increase Apple TV+ viewership and boost Apple's services revenue.

I have so much content I bought from iTunes during my Apple-using years, and it's been annoying that all that content is worthless when I'm out with only my Android phone on hand. Well done, Apple, if they launch this app.

Edited to add for those not in the know: you can use MoviesAnywhere to get your movies onto Amazon Prime and other services, but your TV shows do not transfer. I was fully devoted to Apple for over a decade, and spent thousands on content (music, movies, tv shows, etc), and I want to be able to use what I paid for, even if I'm not still using iPhone.

I don't think this will have your iTunes purchases show up in the app, it's mostly just the Apple TV content. I didn't see any of my iTunes stuff in Apple TV web app or or on TV but TV app was a while ago, maybe they added it.

iTunes is a separate app/service from AppleTV.

See here that Samsung has a separate iTunes Movies and TV apps here: https://news.samsung.com/us/samsung...ovies-tv-shows-support-airplay-2-spring-2019/

The movies I purchased through iTunes show up on the Apple TV app on my Roku tv.

Most of the world uses Android, it would be silly not to support It on your streaming service. I would be really really interested to see if there is a connection between iOS users and using Apple TV+ though. Do people only subscribe and watch the content because they use Apple devices, or do they solely go for the content, or is it a mix?

The AppleTV app on my LG OLED shows my iTunes purchases as well as the AppleTV+ content. When I 1st noticed this I was pleasantly surprised as I did not expect it.

I suspect the AppleTV app for Android will behave similarly. let's see.

When there is money to be made, they'll make the app.
When there is people that would benefit from an Apple app on Android but no money is to be made (iMessage), they won't.

Well considering it's been available on Google TV for a while, technically it's been on Android for a while anyway.? Personally I thought it was already available on Android phones?

Side, barely related question, but does anyone have a recommendation for an Android app that can be used to control an Apple TV?
