I have so much content I bought from iTunes during my Apple-using years, and it's been annoying that all that content is worthless when I'm out with only my Android phone on hand. Well done, Apple, if they launch this app.

Edited to add for those not in the know: you can use MoviesAnywhere to get your movies onto Amazon Prime and other services, but your TV shows do not transfer. I was fully devoted to Apple for over a decade, and spent thousands on content (music, movies, tv shows, etc), and I want to be able to use what I paid for, even if I'm not still using iPhone.
That mostly has to do with contractual obligations to the content creators. Apple is granted the rights to sell digital versions of these works but agrees to protect them from piracy. Something that is difficult to do on someone’s platform.

Apple to launch their advertising app on Android.

Such a shame what has happened to the "TV" app.

iMessage for Android next? Apple TV finally coming to Android after all this time could be a sign?
The Apple TV app exists on just about every platform imaginable, including smart TVs. It is nothing but an advertising app for Apple TV+ streaming service.

True, but for some reason Apple was hesitant to release the Android smartphone version, perhaps thinking some Android users would be tempted to move over to iOS for Apple TV? It could be a sign that Apple may be softening their protective stance?

Difference is AppleTV+ has a subscription fee, iMessage doesn't so this is an apples to oranges argument and I wouldn't see one (AppleTV+) having anything to do with the other (iMessage)

Good move in a long run. Although it breaks the link between the requirement to have an Apple-made hardware and soft, it should allow Apple streaming ambitions grow independent of hardware. An app on Samsung TV been around for awhile also.

About time, it's been on Android TV forever, weird that regular android didn't have it
The Android TV app likely shares much of it's codebase with many of the other supported tv platforms. It was likely a much easier implementation than an Android app.

How else are they going to expand their subscriber base? If they want to play with the big boys! Would not be surprised if this was also a "pain" point during the NFL Sunday Ticket negotiations.

Good to see this getting close to release (if true of course). I just assumed there was one.

Definitely a no brainer if you're providing a streaming service for profit (bit like iPod's / iTunes being released on Windows back in the day, which took some work for the powers in charge to approve at the time), but glad they're doing it.

I have a friend, who latterly the other day said that he was upset that Apple TV didn't exist on Android, and wanted to be able to download show to watch on flights. And that it might be the final reason to switch over to iOS. There were a lot of other reason, but this was the "straw that broke the camels back".

The AppleTV app on my LG OLED shows my iTunes purchases as well as the AppleTV+ content. When I 1st noticed this I was pleasantly surprised as I did not expect it.

I suspect the AppleTV app for Android will behave similarly. let's see.
That is great to hear, I'd love to be wrong here. I'll check again, I wonder why I don't see any iTunes stuff. I wonder if there are limitations.

The Apple TV app on my Fire TV shows and lets me stream all my purchases, under Library. Sames goes for the app on Xbox and nVidia Shield. Those I know firsthand, and hear it's a basically universal rule. You just have to sign in with the Apple ID that made the purchases.

Since quite a few smart appliances run Android, does that mean people can now watch Ted Lasso on a refrigerator display?
