I run a Plex server on an old 2012 Mac mini. I have just upgraded the supported devices to the new OS's they all use and now Plex as a whole is soundless only on ATMOS audio files.

I have troubleshooted on all my devices iPhone 12 Pro Max , Apple TV 4K and MacBook Air and it's universal issue with the new operating systems.

I have tried 'use old player' reinstalled the Plex software etc.. If anyone has a work around till either apple or Plex soft it out would be fantastic !

How can you tell? My metadata programs don't show Atmos information.
Mac players like IINA can display meta information (Window | Inspector in IINA).

TrueHD indicates the audio is uncompressed, which Apple TV does not support.

I use MediaInfo. And the difference is whether the codec is TrueHD (lossless) or Dolby Digital Plus (lossy).
No program shows very detailed information about Atmos. The number of objects and complexity index is all you get.

Doesn't show whether the soundtrack has atmos. I use MediaInfo which also doesn't show it.

Some players, such as Infuse and Plex, have workarounds.

No program shows very detailed information about Atmos.

That's my conclusion as well. Evidently it isn't a simple metadata entry but requires analyzing the sound track data (?).

Well, it is a good place to stop and think, what kind of Atmos information would be useful to the listener in the first place.
From static metadata you can not get much more than what mediainfo shows (ie number of channels and objects and base codec used).
Stream interpretation would allow to see object placement, size, sound volume level etc. But if and how will this be useable?
In my opinion that kind of information needs to be visualized in real time to have any value. Like Dolby’s own tools do and like seen here (probably Trinnov processor):

A little update to this , TVos just updated as well as plex. When I now select ‘use old player‘ the screen just turns black with audio. I untick ‘use old player’ I get picture but no audio.

I do also own a 4K Samsung HDR TV with plex so I can watch ATMOS through that however ( this is a big however ) the TV doing it doesn’t have a patch on Apple TV 4K. The picture is night and day better and the audio running to the 7.1 audio is stunning. The TV is good however the Apple TV is far superior.
