Kodi is the new Napster for movies?
The only thing new about Kodi is the name. It has been around for a long time as XBMC.

Not sure where you got that idea that it was like Napster from what I posted? It is a media app that is available on multiple platforms that, off the shelf, gives you access to several native apps (Cnet, Twit, Youtube, etc.) and your own media files that you have on your own network.

XBMC/Kodi has been a hobby for some people because it is open source. I have no idea if it is capable of Napster-like features, but if it is, it is no more a Napster for movies than a PC is a Napster for movies. In other words, just because something is possible on a platform doesn't mean it is meant for that specific purpose. For example, the AppleTV2 isn't meant to run Kodi, but it can if you jailbreak it.

I want to make my HDTV a Smart Tv, so I am hesitant on what to buy. There are many options like Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku or Android TV, etc. But which one is the most hackable? Which one is the best considering I dont buy movies from itunes and most likely will never do?

I'm guessing you don't have kids or maybe you have enough fee time to spend hacking your devices. I have kids and a job (self-employed) that keeps me busy. I am very high functioning and had done the hacking thing to my devices (early AppleTV, iPhones) in the past, ripped DVD's/Blurays to have the extra content along with the movies, etc. Now I just want to live life without wasting precious time hassling with my entertainment. iTunes movies now come with extras and a DVD menu interface. And when you buy the iTunes movies, music, etc. it's immediately able to stream to all my Apple devices including AppleTV without downloading it. No muss, no fuss.

Take my advice, don't let your entertainment control you…control your entertainment with ease and enjoy the extra time with friends and family. Life is short.

My advice is get an AppleTV.

I've seen that the new Apple TV is coming in about a month and that it will have its own operating system. That probably means it will be jailbreakable in the future...
Is it possible to run Popcorn Time on Apple TV? I found on the web that it is actually possible.
