Do we think that the HomePod Mini will be able to be used as default speakers for the Apple TV like the big HonePods? Rather than just having to set to airplay manually all the time?

Has to happen at some point. It’s off putting not having the audio from navigation and all that.

The default setting is currently part of the Home Theatre function, which is only supported by the regular HomePod due to hardware requirements. It's certainly possible to bring out a setting for the Mini that operates as standard stereo, but we'll have to wait and see. You are free to leave your feedback for Apple in the meantime.

I don't get why the Mini wasn't included. Of course I have already fed back to Apple before coming here.

The default setting is currently tied to the Home Theatre feature and the mini can't be included as part of that because that is used to using spacial awareness simulate surround sound (which is only possible on the regular HomePod). The mini would have to get it's own update that incorporates standard stereo only.

off topic, how is the sound of the iopdhome mini?
im looking for a nice sounding speaker in the work area of my house and the Bose sound dock is great, but my 2007-10 iPods are wearing out plug wise. is the bass responsive and can you hear all the instruments playing?

It has a nice sound. You can definitely hear all the instruments and it has a good volume considering its size. There is a punchy bass but won‘t hit that low end since there is no woofer. If you go stereo then it really open things up.
