I have only had my Apple TV for a couple months, so I am not sure how to go about getting the new OS update/still having my Apple TV jailbroken so I can have XBMC. What is the usual plan of attack for this?
The plan is to wait for the untethered jailbreak to be released. Unless you want to update now and risk blocking your device from future jailbreaks.
awesome, that's what i figured...thanks! The other question I have is when a jailbreak does come out, will I have to redo all the hacks I did, or will it be able to work around those?
So i cant just update to ios 5 now then when the jailbreak comes out just perform the jailbreak Im willing to loose my jailbreak for now but not if i can't jailbreak later
"It depends..." Chances are that the JB community will find an exploit for iOS 5 on the aTV2, but there is no promise that it will happen or even when it will happen. So if you can live with a definite "maybe" then have at it! Nabby
Latest from Twitter A Seas0nPass update for AppleTV 4.4 (iOS 5) is in the works. Full details can be found here: t.co/8GJyrty4
I would wait. And i am waiting. I have all my xbmc all setup nicely with some nice other tweaks and not getting rid and having to set them all update just for ios mirroring that I may or may not use 1 a month...
You're the last person I would think would consider losing his jailbreak goodies from his ATV2. BTW, can't one just save SHSH blobs and then if one doesn't like IOS5 then just back up to an earlier 4.X.X firmware version? I've got my 4.3.5 blobs saved just for this reason (although I think I'll probably only do it with my iPod Touch, and just wait on my ATV2).
I have a similar question to the poster above. I JUST got my ATV2 yesterday, I had done my research and found that ATV 4.3 firmware is jailbreakable... so I hooked up my ATV and accepted the update... not realizing that 4.4 had been released. So, is there any way to downgrade and jailbreak if I don't have shsh blobs saved?
My understanding is you can downgrade ONLY IF the apple servers are still " digitally signing the earlier firmware updates. Once they stop signing them you need to have blobs saved in order to downgrade. I think sometimes they sign earlier updates for a while. In this case with the confusion caused by the faulty 4.4 update for the ATV2 I think they may be leaving their window open a bit longer, IDK. I'm always saving my blobs now - it's easy and it's good insurance.
Im gonna wait for 4.4.1 gets jailbroken... I bought a second apple tv today that i will put in my home office and i will update this one so i can have my nhl gamecenter, and mirroring...
