Apple TV/iTunes & iPhone syncing of music

Hi. Can anyone help with the correct setup of iTunes for syncing music to iPhone and Apple TV. At the moment, I have <16GB of lossless music 'checked' in iTunes for syncing to my iPhone. This same selection gets synced to my AppleTV. Is there a way to get ALL of my music to sync to Apple TV, or am I limited to the memory capacity of my iPhone?

make a playlist, and have only that sync to your phone

I might try and create a smart playlist containing all checked music and then create a playlist from that smart playlist. Then I can just sync all the playlists to my iPhone, and then check all music so that it all gets synced to my Apple TV. Let me know if anyone has a better solution!
