What is it used for? What are the pros and cons? Can you revert?

Used for: Installing other software/mods - XBMC, weather, etc
Pros: ^^
Cons: Time consuming, slows it down a bit, can make it unstable, updates are a lot of effort

You can JB it if it's a 2nd gen. 3rd gen you can't.

3rd gen you can't.

This ^ make sure it's an ATV 1 or 2 before messing around with anything, the 3rd gen will likely never be jailbroken.

I'm not an expert on ATV jailbreaking, but from what i've heard, if you've got a 2nd gen, you'd be wise to jailbreak.
