My 3rd gen Apple TV keeps rebooting. It just started doing so a few days ago. The software is up to date. Any ideas what it could be or how to fix it?

Apple TV keeps rebooting

This has happened to me occasionally on the AT3 and has also happened on my AT4, not "rebooting" but kicking me out of apps out of the blue and onto the home screen. Strange.
I know this was back in 2014, but I could not find a solution on the web, and I did not want to hit reset on my apple TV. I had been using my old mac computer white remote, instead of my apple TV's siri remote. I hate the touch screen on the siri remote. When I updated my OS on my apple TV it started "rebooting" more like refreshing every 2 to five minutes! I tried rebooting it myself, unplugged it for a couple of minutes and plugged it back in but nothing worked. That is nothing worked until I took my old white mac remote and took it outside and put in the car. I rebooted apple tv and now it works like a charm. Coincidence? Brought the old remote back inside clicked on it to make sure I was connected to the apple tv and the same issue started all over again. In my case it was the old apple remote that caused the issue.
