I’m pretty sure this used to work, but now when I go to something that requires text input on my Apple TV 4K, the Apple TV Keyboard shows up on my iPad and iPhone. The problem is, if I tap that on either device it just sits there “Connecting” forever.

The work around is to go to the control center, tap the remote icon and then a keyboard will pop up and I can enter text. That’s not how it’s supposed to work though.

My understanding is that Apple TV keyboard using continuity and that works between the iPhone and iPad, but not the Apple TV.

I’ve tried restarting everything, but it’s still not working. Any ideas here?

Well I fixed this by signing out of iCloud on my Apple TV and signing back in.

Now though I can’t enable Homekit on my Apple TV 4K.

Edit:

Signed out and back in again and Homekit connected a few minutes later.

Might as well make this a trifecta of problems and solutions. After logging out of iCloud and back in, asking Siri on my iPhone to play something on my Apple TV would always do so via AirPlay 2.

The solution was to remove my Apple TV from my Home in the AirPlay settings and add it back in. After that things worked sporadically until I restarted all my devices.

“It just works”. Yeah right.
