Yearly sounds good if you don’t plan to churn. But there isn’t enough content to justify it.

I wonder why people don’t turn to churning more than they currently do. Maybe we just haven’t lived with streaming long enough? Eventually there will be an app that lets you track shows you watch, subscriptions you have, and plan your churn more effectively.

Seriously, nobody needs a year of a streaming subscription to any single content source.

Don’t forget you get a year free if you buy a new Apple product. So if you upgraded or bought the new iPhone this year you get 12 months free. Just signed up for my free year.

Would it make sense to activate the 1 free year towards the end of the 90-day window instead of today? That way you might get season 2 of some shows you like within the 1-year free window.

Just to be clear. You need to sign up for it on the new device. The free trial will then offer you a 1 year free trial vs the normal trial period.
I purchased the Pro Max in September, opened (after downloading) the TV app, then I clicked on For All Mankind then watched the show. I didn’t see any pop-ups or notifications about the 1 year trial. That’s where my confusion is. My Manage Subscriptions still only shows Apple Music not Apple TV+.

Look two posts up. It’s also on the front page.
Again, see my updated post...

I really don't understand all the whiners. If you're on the fence, sign up for a month and stream everything they have; if you don't like it, cancel. It only costs the price of one movie rental. As more content gets added, I'll wager a year from now most naysayers will all be subscribers.

What else are we supposed to do here besides complain about stuff?

Although I agree with you. This $5 per month will go quietly unnoticed alongside the dozens of other $5 per month which go the same way. It's remarkably easy to forget about your subscriptions. It's a magical sea of five dollar bills... floating away...

Uh, I’m pretty sure they made it clear in their keynote dedicated to Apple TV+ that they were producing content only. That’s not like Netflix or Hulu. Apple is among the other channels featured in Apple TV Channels, a feature that led up to Apple TV+.

You are just misguided.

Two things will make people stay at a streaming service. Awesome originals that, making you consume new content and broad portfolio making it easy to watch something you enjoy (and have seen). Think 2000s sitcoms.

Apple is not even trying on the 2nd point then. The first point is to see, unfortunately apples philosophy of quality over quantity is just not as simple in this space. It's very hard to design a show to become a hit. Maybe one of their originals becomes a hit and then they'll double down on that and squeeze out as much money as possible.

That’s probably what a 1-year subscription plan option is aimed at fixing - the issue of users unsubscribing when they feel there is nothing good to watch. You are basically locked in for the whole year, which in turn allows Apple to release content in accordance with their own timeline.

So I just checked AppleTV+ to see the subscription options, thinking I'd do the 1 year option. Instead it said I would get 1 year free with my new iPhone. My iPhone is a 2 year old iPhone 8, but actually it's not. I had both the battery and mother board replaced about 2 months ago under AppleCare+ at no charge. So it has a new serial number. I'm guessing that gives me a technically new phone. AppleCare+ has payed off. w00t!

Lazy Tim decided to not update the two year old Apple TV, a simple thing, driven by greed. I for one am not upgrading my Apple TV with two year old technology they will obsolete sooner. And thus not subscribing to Apple TV with practically no content.

Suit yourself. There is a rumor of an A12 refresh but who knows if that’s true, or when it might be released.

There will be an update at some point, then you can be the first to say, “Thanks Tim Apple, for not being lazy and greedy, and giving us the new ATV” :)

I think some want the jumbo popcorn bag delivered to the house as well. I'm talking about the jumbo that the movie theaters allow a free refill as well.

I don’t know if this applies to the United States, but here in Mexico I have an Apple Music subscription as a student, and they gave me Apple TV+ for free as long as I keep Apple Music as a student. Also a friend of mine got it.

I’m using the one year trial.
For all the mankind is very very good. If the quality is going to stay at this level, I’m going to pay the subscription.
I’m enjoying that show also.

Also The Morning Show, my wife is a big Jennifer and Reese fan, so, she’s loving it.

The monthly is cheap, and it’s bound to get better. I’m in for the year.

I got the email saying my Apple ID qualified for 1 year free and signed up on a Roku. It tells me I won’t be billed until November 2020. I did at least open Apple TV+ on my new iPhone first, though.

I would really consider they need to pull everything in a bundle or at least: Music, Apple TV+ and iCloud storage.

Not everyone has News+ available in their region, but music, tv and iCloud is everywhere.
And hopefully they can price it a bit better as a bundle.
