The Big Bang Theory was a thing. It isn't an accurate depiction of a seemingly obscure group of people, it's just about creating or confirming lazy stereotypes. Nobody would actually ask one of these people what being a gamer is like (or even care), but watching a show about it where everything is extremely exaggerated could be entertaining enough. Before The Big Bang Theory, every science enthusiast (whether professional or not) was considered either boring or arrogant, but now everybody can equate them with the closest TBBT character and be done with it. No idea whether this overall a good or bad thing. It makes these people more approachable for most, but then again it's not particularly flattering to be put into one category with fictional characters that exhibit pathological mental issues by most standards.
One thing I would note: Ubisoft (of Assassin's Creed, Watch Dogs, Tom Clancy, etc. fame) is heading up this project with Rob/Charlie. I can guarantee you that this will have a lot of authenticity and people who actually work in the gaming industry will agree.

How did you get "too much input" from this article. Rob said he had ultimate final say, just that Apple did give some pushback, so there wouldn't be unfettered and undirected creativity.

If you re-read the article you will see this paragraph "Prior information has suggested that Apple has been rather involved in some of the TV shows on Apple TV+, and there were reports that Apple CEO Tim Cook and other executives were "intrusive," making Apple "difficult" to deal with "

I read subsequent articles which debunked those.

That's great, glad to hear it, but that quote was from this article which prompted my response. You did read This article prior to making a comment, correct?

From many of the comments on this story, it is clear why most people can produce a multi-million dollar streaming show. Of course the young director will praise his producer. If he didn't like them, he wouldn't say much. But here's the thing I've learned: the real creative successes are made by talented people, and they are either dead honest or at least pleasant. The kind of "Hollywood" you think describes the whole thing is really only the moral and/or financial failures. The trick is to meet a whole bunch of people, many for the first time, and to make a creative success. That takes honest technical skills, and very creative people. And even they are only successful some of the time.

How is a TV show about gaming nerds interesting? I just don't get it.
It may or may not be a good show but gaming itself has surpassed all other forms of entertainment revenue and esports will soon overtake every traditional sport soon so there certainly isn't a lack of audience.

Hopefully, it's better than that POS show with the guy that throws a hatchet. The acting was so bad; I thought I was back in my high school drama club.
There have been a lot of hatchet throwing shows this past year so you're going to have to be more specific.

Has this site become Apple PR's copy paste factory?

McElhenney said that Apple was "really helpful" in the creative process.

The freaking show hasn't even started. He wouldn't cut his own legs off by saying "Oh Apple? Those IT guys really don't get Hollywood. Such a waste".

If he'd EVER say something like that it would be after the show got cancelled. Not before it aired.
You don't seem to understand how these websites work. First they publish rumors about how PC and hands-on Apple is, then they publish bad reviews, then they publish how great and award-winning Apple shows are and then they publish stories about how great it is to work with Apple. They get ad click revenue from people that want positive stories and also people that want negative stories. All rumor sites follow the same business model.

Another show aimed at - the same - very small subset of the American public.

Nothing wrong with niche but every fan show out of AppleTV is aimed at the same niche (self-satisfied spunk weapons that would vote Tim for President).
Games are bigger than all other entertainment media. Esports are the fastest growing sports and will soon surpass traditional sports in popularity. How is that niche?

I like reading "about the making of..." stuff regarding Apple TV+ as it evolves. I'm willing to read the pieces while suspending judgment about motives of people doing the interviews, writing the shows, interfacing with Apple on the shows, etc. It's just fun to peek behind the scenes a little. So I'm a fan of this particular piece which seems to me to be taking more flak than it deserves. Just my opinion and YMMV as much as it already has for other members...
