This would be my ideal feature update the Apple TV to allow multi-tasking.... I have a 65" screen and would like to have CNN in one corner, ESPN in one corner, my front door security cam in one corner, and my Twitter feed in the other corner.... all that should be simple (built into the OS) and you could use an iPad to control.

How hard to support multiple streams at once?

considering how ott the cpu is , i see no reason why they can't implement things like this

the 4k atv has power to burn

why they don't bring out some console level games is beyond me - imagine borderlands 2 or call of duty on this thing !

Considering that the ESPN app can show 4 separate streams, I’d say you are correct. I am surprised they haven’t implemented some form of multi-tasking. (Wait, no. Not surprised, this is Apple, they will save it for the next appletv)

I don't think the ESPN app is streaming 4 different things for that.... I think they just combine the 4 feeds on their side then then push it to you as 1 stream.

I want to be able to pick and choose my multi-screens from multiple apps at a time... so it can be more than just TV channels.

I’m not sure if the current hardware decoder can process two streams simultaneously. They should still be able to decode the second stream on the CPU if they pushed it down to 1080p (which should look fine a smaller window).
Still this is not a trivial task. The API would need to be updated and the individual apps would need to build in support (similar to the multitasking on the iPad). The biggest issue from Apples point of view, is how to design the UI in order to keep things simple on the existing remote, but even with a few minutes of thinking about it, I already have ideas on how they could resolve that.
