Strange, my AppleTV (4K) works the volume of my Sony 3300ES but unlike a week ago, does not turn it on and off. Any thoughts of what to look for?

This happens to my ATV once in a while - I have never figured out why

I disconnect the ATV power and my Samsung TV power cords then plug them back in - this seems to reset everything

Not sure if that will work in your case but worth a try?

Yeah, that didn't fix it.

Too bad - it would have been an easy fix

Might be something to do with the HDMI-CEC settings on the Sony not communicating with the ATV?

Strange. Going back I realized that this issue started when I changed the HDMI cable form the amp. What is stranger is that it is the HDMI cable from the amp to the television...when really should have no effect. This is how it is wired:

AppleTV>> Sony Receiver >> Television. Why would a cable after the amp have an effect if the amp will shut it down?

I have a Samsung 4K TV and a Samsung sound bar/subwoofer set with my Apple TV. Occasionally I will also have the issue you have - the Apple TV remote will turn off both or will just turn off the TV. What I do to “fix it” is use my other remote to turn them both, then turn on first the TV and then sound bar setup. The next time I use the Apple remote to turn off the Apple TV it will start again turning them both off. But it won’t turn them on. Have to do that separately with my other remote.

CEC is a single wire connection, with every device talking and listening on the same wire. it has some rules on how to be "polite" to the other devices and figure out when to talk, and when to let others talk. Or "who's got the conch" (lord of the flies reference) since if more than one device talks at a time, all of the messages will be lost.

so if you have a bad device, or a bad cable, it's possible to upset the entire chain.
