Apple TV picture flicking on and off

Is anybody else's have the following problem with their Apple TV:

Picture quickly flicks on and off while in slideshow or menu. Music starts and stops too. Does not happen when viewing streaming video, so I don't think it is the hdmi cable.

Are you syncing your content or streaming it?

the pictures are synced. the video was streaming.
