Your new car dropped in price after you drove it off the showroom floor.

Yes, that is true but Apple has always been different. It's been consistent. Think about it. It's one of the things that has made their things hold value.

As opposed to the near $300.00 that went poof when you bought them?

So did you think that they would appreciate in price while you were using them? Were they all investment grade Apple TV devices or just plane old consumer useable Apple TV devices? Your complaint here has no merit whatsoever, really.

No, I wasn't expecting them to be investment grade but I expected that Apple wouldn't reduce the price of them especially without releasing a new unit. How do you think the people who bought one last week feel?

They probably feel the same way that the folks that buy a Mac feel when they buy a Mac then have the new one come out the next week.

😉

I have been holding out on upgrading from an Apple TV 2. Not sure if I want to wait until WWDC, or just buy the ATV3 for $69.

I would wait until WWDC. Tim mentioned twice, when talking about HBO and aTV, that it was" just the beginning" (or something to that effect). Also, I don't think HBO would have gone exclusive with aTV if something new were not in the pipes. JMHO

Didn't the Original Apple iPhone get a price drop?

Apple does make price cuts...normally on older models when newer one is "replacing" it but they make cuts. And you can put yours on ebay as the $99 Apple TV Model.

Thanks! Must have missed that while on the phone.

It's overpriced for what it is. So a price drop is a way to move more old units.

A new product would have lowered the value of the current model even more.

Just be glad they did not can it like the iPod classic

I purchased one last night in my local Apple store for $99 + Tax🙁

I guess if i take it back i can get a refund and then buy a new one .

However i have already installed it and its a pain to get behind my system .

Is it worth going to apple or should i just take it on the chin ?

Pfft... All i got from todays news of a price drop Apple TV was reassurance, reassurance that I made the right choice in buying a Google chromecast and have a second one on the way.

The price drop still won't tempt me into buying one as I was hoping for a new ATV with upgraded hardware and an AppStore.

Depends on how much $30.00 means to you.

If i were in your position, I would return it for the lower price.

The price for the refurbished model dropped from $75 to $59, and that is what I just ordered ($64,87 incl. tax; arriving here on Wednesday). I think that's a good deal for an Apple-only household.

In-between I was considering to get a Roku instead (so many more channels!) but in the end I went with "easy is right". I'm downloading quite often TV shows from German TV stations and will be able to stream them to my TV easily.

Only $10 discount for refurb? Might as well buy new at that point.

You do realize that a factory refurb come with the same warrantee as a new one right?

In most cases a factory "refurb" is just a brand new device someone bought, and returned to Apple. By law they cannot sell that as new.

But hey, if you want to spend more... Have at it.

Call them up and tell them that you want to do a paper exchange. They should have no issues with that. They may even be able to do it over the phone.

Refurbs going for $59 now on Apple's site.

Nice, I wouldn't be surprised if that drops over the next months like other refurb products have. Not great for the seller, for the buyer though, that means used ones should be around $50-ish.

As soon as we do our next TV shuffle, the 3rd TV will get one like our other two sets. 😎

The price of the iPad hasn't went down. It's always held that value point, the iPhone… The same. .

Every year when a new iPad model comes out, the previous year's model gets a price drop. Same with the iPhone: you can still buy a 5s (last year's model), for a significantly lower price. Sure the NEW model (the iPhone 6 this year) may come out with the same price point that the previous model (the iPhone 5S) had a year ago. But the previous year's model (i.e. the one you already own) ALWAYS gets a price drop.

The Apple TV 3 hardware hasn't changed since 2012. It's 3 years old, and has dropped it's price by $30. A typical iPhone price drop is $100 or more, only 1 year after the phone was introduced.

Your complaint is ridiculous.

I would if I were you. Return it and then order a refurbished one online for $59. You'll end up paying ~$64 (including tax) instead of ~$108 (including tax) for the exact same piece of hardware. Save $44.

(I've been buying apple Refurbished products for years. 3 out of the 4 Apple TVs I have purchased have been refurbished. You get the exact same warrantees as a new product. There is absolutely no reason not to buy refurbished.)

Thanks very much for the info.

I called the store and they said just come in with my receipt and they will give me the $30 difference . I dont have to bring the Appletv with me.

thanks for the tip.
