Apple today raised the monthly price of its Apple TV+ streaming service to $12.99 in the U.S., according to 9to5Mac's Benjamin Mayo.

Apple TV+ cost just $4.99 per month in the U.S. when it launched in 2019, but the price has now increased three times. The price went up to $6.99 per month in 2022, and then to $9.99 per month in 2023, and now the service costs $12.99 per month. The latest price increase applies to select other countries too.

An annual subscription to Apple TV+ will continue to cost $99 in the U.S., and Apple One bundle prices are not changing, the report said.

The new price is effective immediately for new Apple TV+ subscribers, but various free trial options remain available. For existing subscribers, the price increase will take effect 30 days after their next renewal date, the report said.

In a statement shared with 9to5Mac, Apple attempted to justify the price increase by noting that it has continued to expand its library of original content, and it touted the value of its Apple One plans with multiple Apple services.

Many other streaming services like Disney+ and Netflix have raised prices in recent years.

It has become uncompetitive vs the prices of content on other platforms. The only reason I have it now is because of the Apple One family plan. Which is relatively a decent deal still but it's also on the brink of being too expensive if Apple raises prices. Wish they offered a cheaper a la cart version of Apple One family plan.

I appreciate that Apple has been working to expand their library. However, there still isn't enough content selection (that I would probably watch) for me to pay $99. Maybe that will change down the line but, for now, I will stick with Plex.

I always relish a day on the forums where I fully agree with a user that normally disagrees with me on everything.

Cheers to our “day of unity” Robert

I would also like to see Apple One offered in different user selected packages.

There is some good stuff on Apple TV +, but not nearly enough to justify $13 a month. I get this with T-Mobile but assuming this increase will be passed along eventually on my bill... I'll be dropping it if I can.

Although I like the content that Apple TV+ has it is a subscription that I find simply unjustifiable, there’s just not enough catalogue to be asking for that monthly price.

Also, I really don’t know where Apple is going with TV+, it clearly has failed into locking millions into their service, wouldn’t be surprised if they end up discontinuing it and selling the rights for their shows and movies to other streaming services.
