Hello all!!

my husband and I are getting ready to sell our cars and house to buy a truck and fifth wheel camper to drive around and explore parts of our country (US) that we have never seen before.

I wanted to ask the community if there were some recommendations on projectors that are 1080p with a short throw feature? Would also entertain 4K, however we don’t really need it because our movie/tv library is not in 4K. Though streaming in 4K from Apple, Netflix, etc. would be welcome.

Anyway, thought I would ask! Can’t wait to ready any suggestions!

I have a BenQ Ht2150ST I think it is great. I get around a 110” image from 6 about feet away. I use the Apple TV with HomePod speakers. The projectors speakers are not great. You need a good screen though, darker is better For better contrast in the blacks. I didn’t have a whole lot to spend Or a lot of space.

Nice. I think I have heard about this one. And definitely sounds like a great one. We haven't decided on what our budget is going to be for it yet. We are considering doing a similar setup for speakers, as we have one HomePod. I'm sure one would be enough in a camper, but I feel like we would want two so we could set it up in stereo pair. Although, HomePods tend to be more expensive than when Apple still sold them. So I don't know if that is a good long term solution.

Thanks for your suggestion, will certainly consider this one!

I ended up ordering a BenQ TH585. It was $100 off today. I hope this was a good decision for the camper! I also bought a second HomePod to use two HomePods in Stereo pair. I found a new one for $260, which I thought was a great price. It can be hard to find this for what they retailed for when Apple was still making them.

So you will be using local storage for your library? Although 4K streaming via cellular might work in some locations, there will likely be no useable streaming options in remote locations.

4k uses a lot of data on streaming, for my fixed line with a good rate at 25mb/s and more. Netflix was around 15mb/s.

We have a few different solutions. We have a pretty massive Plex library which is local. However, we will both be working throughout our travels, so we bought this:

Pepwave 5G cellular router

It will have four extra antennas that go on the roof of the RV to help get the best signal possible, and the device itself creates our wifi network using the cellular connection. I’m sure there will still be spots where we don’t get a signal. However, this accepts to SIM cards, so we will get a data plan from our primary provider (T-Mobile) and get a “pay as you go” sim from Verizon for when we need to try for a backup connection.

That thing isn’t cheap, but since we both work we need the extra reliability we hope it will provide.

I cannot speak for that brand but seeing a dongle plugged in a router vs an aerial fed router with internal sim of the same make (Draytek) the latter was streets ahead in useful. think they used aerials sold through chandlers. I suppose boats need to get internet as well. But it was impressive reception From the roof mounted aerials.

Actually, thinking about it, they had a satellite option as well. Used some application to use the best option as the 4g was cheaper than the satellite, if they went out of range of the 4g cell, the satellite could be used for the internet.

The real game changer could be SpaceX with their Starlink satellites. Internet access even in the middle of the ocean.

I'm pretty excited about our cellular router we got. Seems to be one of the best, if not the best, that there is out there. Lots of great reviews and how much these devices help with getting better reception.

Thats sounds great! Where in the world did you find a homepod for $260. That is a great deal!

Yeah, I think this will work out very well! I found it on Etsy in the US. The vendor had a few of them, but they all sold.
