Apple TV+ today provided a first look at "Long Way Up," an upcoming motorcycle series produced by and starring Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. The first three episodes will premiere September 18, followed by new episodes weekly.

The series will follow Ewan and Charley as they ride through Latin American countries, including Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and Mexico:
Covering 13,000 miles over 100 days through 16 border crossings and 13 countries, starting from the city of Ushuaia at the tip of South America, Ewan and Charley journey through the glorious and underexposed landscapes of South and Central America in their most challenging expedition to date, using cutting edge technology on the backs of their electric Harley-Davidsons - "LiveWire" in order to contribute to the sustainability of the planet.
"Long Way Up" will serve as a sequel to Ewan and Charley's previous motorcycle adventures in "Long Way Round" and "Long Way Down," which aired on British networks Sky One and BBC Two respectively in the mid 2000s.

I like the diversification of tv+ content. Not everything is something I'll watch, but it'll attract a wide range of viewers to the platform, raising its profile and creating momentum for even more great content.

I can see some missing niches that I'd like to see filled. An Anthony Bourdain style food/travel show made in the same style as HOME, would be fantastic.

Apple should really look into adding live sports. While they're not going to outbid the established sports giants, an opportunity may be emerging with The Rock's acquisition of the XFL. Before COVID hit, the XFL 2.0 was getting good reviews from sports fans. If Apple were to cut a deal with Dwayne Johnson to be the face of the XFL, streaming on tv exclusively, I can see it doing well.

This is exciting!! Apple also bought the two prequel series Long Way Down and Long Way Around. I hope they release them all on Sept. 18 in 4K HDR remaster.

Oh this is fantastic - loved Long Way Round and enjoyed Long Way Down. Read the accompanying books too.

One request from me to Apple, Charley and Ewan: can the soundtrack have a little less Stereophonics this time? 😁

I enjoyed the previous installments “Long Way Round” and “Long Way Down”, which chronicle the efforts involved in long distance, so this is a welcome addition.

Long Way Round was really cool. The second series, Long Way Down wasn't as good, but still decent. I'm really curious how those electric motorcycles will fare on South American dirt roads with no chargers in sight. I guess they'll have to bring 'charging support vehicles' along - which will detract somewhat from the adventure aspect of it.

I once circumnavigated the NA continent - originally I had planned on going to South America. But riding alone, I didn't want to run the risk of getting killed in Central America. Well that and I have zero mechanical skills. I did my trip on civilized roads - but even up in Alaska and Canada, there were stretches with hundreds of miles between gas stations. Those electric Harleys don't even go 100 miles - I guess this season will be lots of fireside conversation in between charges :)

Amazing news! Absolutely love the long way round! long way down was good. Didn’t realise this was going to Apple this time round. I’ve been waiting for this to come out for 10+ years.

This does sound like it will be good to watch, even though I haven't seen the original shows yet.

Sooo... boring premise. Met Chilean journo riding from Ushuaia to end of Pan-Am Highway ending in AK. He was surveying millennials along the way then emailing back to University in Chile. He noted that no one knows anything about millennials, values, their beliefs nor politics. Yet within a decade millennials will be running the world as the BabyBoomer generation in power slips away. With only 10 yrs. left he thought it was time to find out about our new rulers.

That would be a much more interesting premise than two dudes doing what dudes do on the road.

Loved the first one, 2nd one got a little too shicky micky. Lets hope they were able to bring back a bit of the magic of season 1.

knowing ppl who have done this route before, down and up, it's not too exciting, but that they tried to do it with ELECTRIC bikes is what will make it all the more interesting.

Loved both previous seasons. I hope they have the same production team too. Those guys were great to watch as well especially trouble shooting the crossing of borders and trying to stop everyone falling out. Can’t wait.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't give a **** about rich people with unlimited resources riding bikes up a hill?
Yes, one of them at least is rich (don't know if Boorman is), but neither their trip nor anyone else's takes unlimited resources. I've gone around all of NA (10,800 miles/26 days) - and my only costs were gas, one change of tires and quite a few cheap hotel rooms and very occasional camping out. Those 26 days probably cost me less than your average beach vacation.

And, besides, I'm pretty sure they also went down a few hills.

I'm loving (not) all these posts that essentially say "I've never ridden a motorcycle, I don't know who Charley Boorman is, I didn't know the first two series' existed, but here's my opinion on all these things."

Maybe just go watch Greyhound and refrain from adding useless comments ...?

My impression was that the series suggests motorcycles are as cool as smoking.
