Bit awkward no one picked this up.

Anyway, how we getting on with that iWork update Apple?

Never fails that this ridiculous comment will appear in most Apple discussions.

Because we all know Apple pulled software engineers from iWork and hardware engineers from iPhone/iPad development and transferred them to Apple TV to work as directors, set designers, writers and the like. 🙄

Is there much creativity left in this entertainment space, most of it has minor differences or reboots. Plus if this is from the 1970’s I believe IP and copyright has meet the public domain.

I think you might be confusing copright with patents.

Copyrights last for the life of the author/creator plus an additional 70 years. We can thank Disney for this. It's why Steamboat Willie (released Nov. 1928) didn't enter the public domain until Dec 2023.

I remember watching “Shoot” on TV in New Zealand back in the late 70s or early 80s, it left an impression on me, one of those movies you remember bits of.

I watched it on YouTube again last night to confirm it’s the movie of my distant memories, it was, although it must have been heavily cut for tv. To be honest it’s a pretty crap movie, hopefully we get to see the much improved Apple version at some stage.

just going to say that if your company's market cap was $4 trillion, you'd take intellectual property law suits seriously too
Conversely, you'd think they can afford to buy the rights where needed.

More to the point, that "intellectual property" laws did not exist when Shakespeare was alive, otherwise he would be getting sued constantly for copyright infringement -- half his plays were adapted from one existing story or another. 500 years later no one remembers any of the work he "plagiarized" and Shakespeare himself is a legend. Revert to the original 14 year copyright laws -- by now the 1973 work would have long been in the public domain.

Why was The Savant pulled? Also alleged plagiarism?

The Savant covers themes of domestic terrorism, extremism, political assassinations, etc. It was set to be released right around the time when an actual such event occurred in the US, so Apple likely didn’t want to court controversy or be seen to be profiting off that.

It’s reportedly just been postponed, not cancelled altogether.

Pretty sure the cast and crew got paid already.

Most likely. But sometimes key people (director, lead actors, etc) have contacts that are tied to the success of the production. If the project is never released then they would likely miss out on that entirely.

I was thinking about the cast and crew as well. They should still be paid for the work they put in regardless, but it sucks if that work never gets to see the light of day through no fault of their own.
If things change as time goes by Savant may eventually see a release… 😉
