Apple TV Question

After seeing the 2008 Keynote from Steve Jobs, I was sold on the TV. Movie Rentals?? Awsome. I live in Canada so I won;'t get them untill maybe..........summer. But I would still really really like one. Anyways I'm all ready to go and buy one except for one important thing. My TV is not HD or even widescreen, it's a decent TV but I don't know if it will work.

Apple says a 480p tv will work and that sounds like lower quality but I don't know what resolution my tv is,

It needs either component or HDMI inputs. If it has component, it may do progressive scan (the "p" part of 480p).

If it has component, it should work OK, especially if it has an "enhanced" widescreen mode.

I'm pretty sure yout TV doesn't have to be HD, but I'm pretty sure it has to be 16x9.

As for no rentals in Canada.... can you skip down to Seattle for a day and pick up some iTunes gift cards there?

One of my Apple TV's is running on a Sony 32 inch traditional format (4:3) television and it works fine. I'm using component video since this tv doesn't have HDMI. My resolution on the ATV is set to 480i. I don't think you NEED a 16:9 setting or anything, although I'm sure it can't hurt. Your content can looked a little squished at times. You'll see black bars on the side for some videos. It's not ideal for the HD loving movie watchers out there, but it works great for me. It's a great way to let the kids watch videos, listen to music and look at your pictures from iPhoto.
