I have a Samsung "Smart TV" with the worst interface on planet earth. It's laggy, convoluted and just a horrible thing to use. I am thinking that getting an Apple TV will fix some of these issues. I have a few questions about it:

Will I be able to set it up such that it automatically connects to the TV without needing to first find the Apple TV within the stock OS?

I torrent lots of movies and shows. I plan to use VLC on my Mac and then AirPlay it to the Apple TV. I do this because I don't like subscriptions and also my wife is Korean and we usually need subtitles. I also like to be able to watch stuff at 1.25X speed.

How well does AirPlay work with it? Does it have any lag or reduction in video quality?

First question: yes
Second question: yes but I would prefer Infuse Pro. Although It’s a subscription, it’s totally worth it. Says the guy that does a lot of Torrent.
