I just got an ATV a few weeks ago and am liking it quite a bit except the cumbersome navigation. I have a universal remote and have programmed in the remote codes corresponding to the buttonson the apple remote. however, I find it cumbersome to push something like: menu>menu>menu>up>up>right>down>down>select just to navigate from some podcast to MyMovies.

Are there discrete IR codes the the ATV would recognize to go directly to the home screen for example? I know there are no buttons on the supplied remote, but often electronics accept remote codes that aren't on their included remotes. I'm not really optomistic there are, but thought I'd ask here.

Thanks for any help.

Not that I"m aware of. Apple's minimalist approach to the ATV remote let's your fingers get some exercise...

Thanks!

Thanks, this helps a great deal! Not quite as good as discrete IR codes to get everywhere, but workable. I think I can even program an extended IR signal into my universal remote so I don't have to hold down the button or more importantly remember which button to hold down. I think I can program a stand-by button similarly.
