We've got the current gen Apple TV.

Recently, the remote started acting up. Some of the buttons / commands work normally. Whereas, others don't work.
Specifically, the center button doesn't respond to presses nor touch swiping. And the volume buttons stopped controlling our stereo (Denon).
I've done most of what would seem logical; restart Apple TV, restart remote, fully charged remote, made sure OS is up to date.

None of this resolves the issue.

I can confirm that the actual streaming device seems to work as expected, because I can fully control it using the virtual remote on my iPhone.

Also, oddly, the remote seems to transmit the commands from the "faulty" buttons. Because if I press the center button, the light on the box will blink. So it's receiving the signals, but it's refusing to comply. Weird, right?

FWIW: About a year ago, the remote freaked out, and wouldn't respond correctly, and would persist in un-commanded scrolling.
Went to a "Genius Bar" - they couldn't replicate...of course. But it seemed to fix itself, when I got home.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this one?

Thanks!

Where's the TV remote? the TV can send commands over the HDMI to the aTV, it's possible that got stuck in between the cushions on the couch, and it's buttons are being pressed.

also try unplugging and re-plugging all of the HDMI connections. sometimes the HDMI-CEC handshakes need a refresh.

The TV remote is on a shelf, unmolested. But I'll try the HDMI refresh.
Any other ideas, in case that doesn't fix it? Because like I mentioned, my phone is able to fully control the unit.

BT interference. Are there any other BT enabled devices in the near vicinity? Restart your ATV. Defective remote? If you pair another remote, same issues?

Not really thinking it has anything to due with Bluetooth; not one single new digital device, nor changes, in our house.
That's the only current-gen ATV we own, so I can't test any other remotes. But doesn't the phone communicate with the device via BT?

I'll go through that troubleshooting checklist again, to see what comes of that.

Wifi and Bluetooth are on the same radio bands.
Maybe a router or wifi hotstpot?

Proximity plays a role in interference.
If nothing wifi was added, was something wifi moved?

No, seriously, not one new thing added nor moved. It's been alarming long since we bought any new electronic gadgets. And the weirdest thing was there was also nothing new or changed, when the remote freaked out over a year ago...then magically resumed normal operations.
