Hi Guys,

The "select" button of My Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) remote has recently changed its behaviour. Instead of selecting the item it acts the same way as the left button and it moves the selection to the left. I have done all the troubleshooting such as software updates, factory resets, pair/unpair, battery charge, etc but nothing helps. All the other buttons work as expected.

I have to note that the Apple tv has been sitting on top of my wifi router and i suspect it has some connection. If i use the remote on the iphone - it selects fine.

Do you think a new remote would fix the issue or do i need to buy a new apple tv?

many thanks

Im having the exact same issue. Bypassed by using iphone remote and ordered a replacement remote. Tried reseting, repairing the remote. restarting apple tv. Apple TV shows a flashing light when I press buttons on remote, but nothing happens.

Update: A month ago I disconnected the apple tv and I put it in it's box. Today i decided to try it again and by some miracle the problem fixed itself on it's own. Now it's working fine.

Hello, just to update my own thread. The issue was indeed the fact that it was sitting on top of the (Chinese) router. Don't know why someone thought it is a good idea to have Bluetooth and Wifi run on similar frequencies. I decided not to take chances and went with first party Apple Airport Extreme router (even though they are discontinued). I also moved the Apple TV as far from the router as possible. It's been over a month and the Apple TV has been working flawlessly without replacing the remote.
