I mean... Apple TV+ does have viewers but the main thing holding it back right now is content and they clearly are happy to grow slowly while they build up a catalogue of entirely original work of their own, which takes time.
I don't know what kind of show you expect them to get that would suddenly 'break streaming records' seeing as the shows of recent years that have broken streaming records that fit your description are maybe The Mandalorian and Wandavision, which aren't really applicable because they're series set in the most successful movie universes of all time. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a single sci fi series that's been a mega-hit over the past five years that's actually been completely original content. There have been several garbage sci fi shows on Netflix that have mostly failed after a season. The Expanse, I guess, but while it's a very popular show with a vocal fan base, it's still being axed three seasons early unfortunately likely because the viewing numbers aren't good enough for Amazon to justify the cost. Still, Apple has For All Mankind, one of the best shows of the decade but from the way you've been talking, I'd hazard a guess that it's too grown up for you. Of course, there's Foundation coming too later this year.
