I guess for the "real 'murica" Apple could make a hook-up reality show called "Family Reunion"... followed by the sit-com "They Took R Jerbs"
Real ‘Murica likes shows about Israel.

I don't have a good feeling about this.

First, Mr. Cook got involved in politics which I think was unwise. Regardless of which side you take, there's always be the other side that doesn't like you and therefore doesn't like your product.

This is a spy thriller set in Israel and Iran. How is any of that remotely political? That’s just two countries at odds with each other. Can Apple not do a show like The Americans because it is political in that it deals with the Russian-American conflict?! Political would be if the show passed judgment on the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, which it clearly has nothing to do with whatsoever. Unless your opinion is that every show out of Israel inherently has something to do with that - And that is a preposterous argument.

Makes me wonder since its an Israeli production..

Hope this doesn't have the Iranians come off as savage animals with the exception of a few "underground freedom fighters" a la 'Not Without My Daughter'.

Not Without my Daughter is an American production from 1991. How does that have any relation to a 2020 show made in Israel by the same team that did Fauda?

Also, the plot shows the spy protagonist from Israel falling in love with an Iranian, so I can't imagine your concern holds any water.

A CEO's responsibilities are to his customers and investors. If he wants politics, he can quit CEO and I have no doubt he'd be a great politician because I genuinely believe Mr. Cook is a man of honor.

Second, doing a show about intelligence and illegal stuffs done by/in countries that have multiple political/sovereign conflicts is begging for trouble. Soon or later, a detail somewhere in the show will get someone mad. They may one day retaliate against Apple because a part of the show may have been a disgrace to his people (in his own view).

I was hooked onto Homeland the minute I saw its first episode. But when it came to a later season when Carrie deliberately slept with a young boy probably half her age to gain a strategic advantage, I think the series completely lost its touch. Such a sexual act is not just wrong, it's completely against his culture and religion. The series management decided to show complete disrespect for a middle eastern culture and I think that was not just crossing the line, but running over it with a tank. I stopped watching the rest of the show.

Wow, someone who said it better than I did. As a converted Muslim guy, I really want to see my culture represented in television. Honestly, an Islamic James Bond would be totally fly.

Apple TV, to be honest, just sucks. It caters to the mainstream and I honestly think that Netflix is just superior in their custom shows. I just saw Spike Lee's Da 5 Bloods and wow, my heart was smitten. As a student I don't get much time and that was a worthy three hour head trip.

Nothing to worry about. I'm sure Apple has put a great deal of thought into what they take on.

Honestly that plot thread has been overdone to death:

As a guy who has studied the Mossad, I can't say this show looks promising. Unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat. But Waltz with Bashir still remains one of the best films from the Israeli cinema for my tastes.

This reminds me a lot of Homeland which just ended it’s 8th season at the end of April.
If you’re not familiar, Homeland revolves around a CIA agent, Carrie Mathison, that fights against terrorism. The first season focused on a POW (prisoner of war) that was turn and released back to the US and Carrie’s relationship with the POW.

Shirley everybody knows about Homeland. Even my 82 year old Mum knows about it.

If memory serves me correctly, Homeland was also based on an Israeli TV show.

Why would it make you wonder? There are like at least 100000 Israelis of Iranian descent, no one thinks they are savage animals. I mean one was president another chief of staff.

Don’t be naive. Israeli and Iranian sentiment towards each other isn’t exactly positive.

And the plot about a “pro-democracy” lover presumably surrounded by a contrasting “pro-regime” general population sounds familiar and cliche.

YES!! I love Israeli dramas! Finally a guy-oriented show, spy thrillers are my jam. This will make up for Little Voice being geared to women exclusively.

check out Fauda on Netflix.

nm, I should've read the thread first. Many recommendations already.

Did you selectively ignore my post? I wrote that The Americans is a show that is quite popular and is considered a spy thriller, not a political show, even though "American and Russian sentiment towards each other isn't exactly positive (or wasn't during the time period the show is based in)." I don't see why making a show about rival countries is political. How do you EVER have a spy thriller with two countries that aren't in tension with each other? Do you think anyone wants to see a spy thriller about an American undercover in Canada, just keeping tabs on Royal Mounties?

The Americans not a political show? Maybe I thought that I saw the version featured on FX. The Americans I saw was definitely mired in tropes of Cold War politics and to fathom that it is an apolitical show would be ignoring a huge facet of its cultural and visual overtones.

It's about time... I want something more action / drama / thriller and not boring shows. 'Defending Jacob' and 'SEE' are great shows. I have yet watched 'For All Mankind' and 'The Morning Show' but planned to. The rest are meh.

You understand, I hope, that in the real world (forget about television) things happen that are not necessarily in accord with cultural norms?

Nope never heard of it. I got rid of cable TV in 2002 when I moved from the US to the Republic of Georgia and never felt the need to have TV again.

I hope this program shows Iran, and the Iranian people in a good light, as they (not the government) are some of the smartest, and most strong willed people on this planet.

Yup. I've been to Iran twice and it's one of the most fascinating countries I've traveled to.

Oh goody, another Barf-fest show I won’t watch. Heaven forbid Apple ever starts providing shows that are truly worth watching to anyone who doesn't live in the Bay Area of CA. Just as well, that interface they built into my Apple TV 4K is so convoluted and filled with advertisements I wouldn't be able to find a good show if it existed. I thought Amazon was horrible with trying to get us to rent/purchase everything even with a Prime membership, Apple is way worse! Both services need a "Turn off the @#$%ing Ads and Show Me What is Free with My Membership" button.

This rant doesn’t make any sense. 👎

Iran is one of the few countries where Apple has no store, no AppStore, no support, nothing. So, Timmy has no problem if they get upset.

I have been using the free year trial of AppleTV+ since late 2019. I thought my mind would change but I honestly can't see how anyone pays for this service.
Just like their other services (Apple Music, News+) nothing will ever change, just new content will dribble in.
They need perks like a weekly iTunes first run rental, or something.
Best of luck.
