Since yesterday whenever I try to play anything on the Amazon Prime Video App, it streams the Ad at the start and then just buffers when it should start the episode.

I have restarted my router and Apple TV3, tried changing the streaming quality - no difference. It’s not the speed of my broadband, as it streams fine on my iPad Pro. Anyone else getting this?

I’ve fixed it. I used Restore in General Settings to put the device back to factory settings. A bit drastic, but it has worked.

I'm also using a 3rd generation and had the same problem yesterday. Like yours, the only thing that fixed it was a factory reset. Today, it's doing it again. I can't find any other way to get the app to clear out its cache or whatever is messing up. Logging out didn't work, I had to do the factory reset.

Oh, I just found something before I submitted this post. I deregistered it from amazon (removed it from 'manage your devices' on the website, not by logging out of the app on the apple tv) and the apple tv still thought it was signed in, meaning it's not even hitting the internet to try to play the video. I had to try playing a few different things until it finally got an error and realized it needed to sign in. I signed in again and it works - for now.

It just failed on me again! I have found that signing out using the App and then restarting the Apple TV and signing back in seems to get it going again. I hope it’s not going to make a habit of this.

While I was watching an Amazon Prime show, it crashed out saying the Apple TV wasn’t connected to the internet. Afterwards I was unable to continue viewing without going through the same sign out and reset process. I seem to remember that I have seen the “not connected to the internet” error recently. Is it possible that losing WiFi could be corrupting something in the Amazon Prime App? Gunso, have you seen this message?

No, I haven't seen that message. But it's always possible it had a bad connection elsewhere on the path to amazon's servers when it still had a good local internet connection. It seems like there is something getting corrupted in amazon's app and once that's in there, it can't overcome it until it discards its cache and resyncs with their servers. A simple restart wouldn't clear that since it's still on the flash memory. I've been watching stuff tonight and it was slow to start one show, but it started after a bit. I'm on 100Mbit FIOS and never have trouble streaming on anything else. As long as it starts, I get full HD quality the entire show/movie.

And.. it happened again today. Looks like it's a daily thing now. Something about a the pre-roll ads for the other Amazon shows maybe? It seems to only happen after one of those.

Well, after days of having to logout of Amazon Prime Video to get it working, it may be fixed! Two days running it has worked and the first of those was after a previous failure and I didn’t bother to log out.

Hopefully all is good now.
