Got mine today as I picked it up from the depot.

What are people's initial impressions? Cool piece a kit and like the movies and photo options but having no TV episodes is a bit of a bummer. It desperately needs a APP store and iPlayer. Without these I really cant see me using it too often which is a shame.

Edit: also a bit jarred by the fact us brits are charged so much more for content:( someone needs to tell apple the exchange rate isnt 1:1.

I think that'll fall on deaf ears unfortunately :(

I recall reading that the US can rent BBC shows. Now, I know we don't really need to do this, as we get them 'free', but surely we should have access to the same servers, so we can at least rent them (for free, of course:eek:)

Back to dreaming!

Does the new :apple:TV show up in iTunes Devices and/or the iTunesPreferences panel? I struggled with my V1 TV the other week, lost it from iTunes completely, I had to set it up to stream before I could get it to sync.
I assume the new :apple:TV won't appear in Preferences panel as it's not syncing.

That's right. No sign of AppleTV in iTunes sidebar or preferences. Everything works through Home Sharing.

Steve.

Managing to keep myself distracted this weekend and not drive to the TNT depot in desperation!

All my friends say "what's the point of the AppleTV" when I say I'm excited about it and point me toward alternatives. When I ask "can it play my iTunes store bought movies and 'digitalcopy' files (from DVD/Bluray combos)" they say "er... no, but you shouldn't use iTunes anyway!" then I end with "but you know I use Macs and quite like iTunes" and then it ends with "yeah, but!..."

Never listen to the Apple nay-sayers - this device does exactly what it says it will and with some style. Nobody HAS to use iTunes & it has a number of issues but if you use it (as I do) then the Apple TV is the bees knees. It is of course allowed to use other 'stuff' in parallel - dbPoweramp for instance features in my toolkit very strongly for music. I'm no Apple fanboy but for what I want iTunes, my iPhone & the TV (when I get it) do the job.

Sorry - rant over now - roll on Monday!

me either... just have to wait until Monday..

The best thing is I don't even need to now! Sure I want to watch a movie tonight on it but don't neeed it :) just want it :D

Yeah tell me about it... I had to slum it yesterday and use my old Apple TV to put a film on for my Son, (Astroboy 2009, incase anyone is interested)... he loved it, ended up watching it twice!

Yup that's a little strange... I think you might want to call them and see what's going on. Unless you are in Northampton then it's around the corner.

I'm still with out updates! If anyone rings can you pass the info on please :) I'm out and about today!

Just took a call for you... they wanted a peperoni pizza with extra cheese. I said be with them in 10 minutes. :D

For me that is the weak point in the rental model over buying outright. I'm happy to watch a film once, but kids will watch them again and again (and again).

Still can buy them on your mac and then stream it don't forget :)

Yeah, that's what I'll carry on doing. I may even leave the old :apple:TV set up for him with films ready loaded on it. It'd just be a bit cheaper if he'd watch a £2.99 rental once then never want to watch it again

Lol that is true! I plan on using it to stream stuff more than rent. May get a movie once a month

yeah it's a real guessing game sometimes as to buy or rent, like or dislike.. If he likes it then he'll watch it lots, like toy story, others he'll watch just once or twice.

it would be nice if we could sign up to an all you can eat system and pay a monthly fee.

Maybe with the new apple tv being streaming only apple may offer something like this! Worth an email to stevey baby? Lol
