"Dickinson" was one of the first TV shows to be available on the Apple TV+ streaming service when it launched in November 2019, and it is set to wrap up with the third season, Apple announced today.

Season two of "Dickinson" premiered earlier this year, and season three is set to premiere on Friday, November 5. In the third season, Emily Dickinson (played by Hailee Steinfeld) sees her productivity fall amid the American Civil War and a battle that divides her own family. She tries to heal the divide around her, wondering if art can keep hope alive and if the future can be better than the past.

"Dickinson" stars Toby Huss, Adrian Blake Enscoe, Anna Baryshnikov, Ella Hunt, Amanda Warren, Chinaza Uche, and Jane Krakowski will return, as will Wiz Khalifa, who plays Death. Guest stars will include Billy Eichner, Chloe Fineman, Zosia Mamet, Will Pullen, and more.

The first three episodes will come out on November 5, with the remaining seven following on a Friday release schedule.

If this was any other studio, they would not allow the creator of the show to run only 3 seasons. It would be changed and dragged.

Apple appreciated the creator and didn’t interfere with its story line letting the show run as intended
Netflix is notorious for ending shows after 3 seasons.

I'm a huge television fan. It's been amusing to see how, when shows naturally sunset like this, ultimately people still end up saying it was "cancelled" and that becomes the accepted idea because there's an overwhelming amount of shows that actually get cancelled. Just a thought I've seen pick up over the last couple of years!

A fantastic show, even if you are not into costume drama or poetry. The cast is so charismatic (Toby Huss as Dickinson's dad is a standout) and the series look and sound so stylish. It reminds me a lot of Heath Ledger's A Knight's Tale.

November 5 release date is a great surprise and I look forward to creator Alena Smith's future Apple TV+ series.

I completely understand why they release shows weekly but I still hate it. I would rather binge an entire show in a week or a weekend. So I will have to wait for more episodes to drop before going to season three. It's the same for See. As much as I want to watch this now, I will wait for more episodes to drop before I start this season.

100% agreed. Apple is becoming the go to place for production companies and showrunners who want their vision to be appreciated and respected. Netflix has lost a lot of respect in the film community with the early cancellations. Producers never know what to expect with fickle Netflix.

Bittersweet news, as this this show is excellent but I suspect part of that comes from it being focussed and creatively-driven instead of studio-driven. If it were extended to run for seasons more, the spark could be lost.

If the third season is as high quality as the prior ones, the show's reputation will live on and this brilliantly-crafted piece of television will be waiting to be discovered by future TV+ audiences.

Huge ED fan and I’ve written several pieces as an homage to her style, likewise I am a big Hallie Steinfeld fan, Edge of Seventeen is a fantastic performance, but I couldn’t make it past the 2nd or 3rd episode. This was not well done. Opportunity wasted.

Opportunity wasted because it didn’t meet your expectations? I’d say at least watch all episodes in season one before. Most shows today take several episodes to establish themselves.

Could be saving face, but it sounds like from the creator (see link in original post) that the show was envisioned as a 3 season arc. If true, bravo for not pushing it further.
If it WAS actually a cancellation due to low viewership numbers, Apple wouldn’t have allowed this upfront announcement of “final season” - with Amazing Stories, Home Before Dark (presumably since no announcement of the finale episode even), and Little Voice, the shows just slipped away without a renewal announcement and Apple pretended they didn’t exist.

Not going to lie. First thought looking at the OP photo, "in what movie did Michael Jackson play a union soldier?" 🤣

What a completely ridiculous statement. I cannot... oh, wait, no, I definitely see your point.

Anyhow, I am not a fan of the show but I appreciate that there was a 3 season arc that they are sticking to from an artistic viewpoint.
