when the Apple TV was new, I could scrub forward in a stream with a little preview of where I was scrubbing to or scrubbing back to, just by sliding my finger left and right on the controller. This only works sometimes now.

What is the trick to doing this consistently? I was just watching infuse today and I wasn't able to scrub at all, had to click the touch area, scan forwards, and click again to play.

Any advice? A setting I'm missing?

It depends on the app. For me, it rarely works in Plex, but always works for videos I rented or purchased in iTunes. If I want to always see thumbnails when scrubbing, I need to use Plex on my 2016 Roku Streaming Stick.

The feature isn't gone, it's working as it always has 🙁

Click. It always works for me.

Media players like Infuse always seem to have quirks when it comes to scrubbing. I don't think that's the remote's fault.

Tap as in touch? or tap as in click?

Even when I stop the stream, and try to scrub forward/back, it doesn't always work. Especially troublesome in Infuse (though this might not be apple's fault).
Try in another app.
1. Click to pause
2. Swipe to scrub
