Thinking about getting an Apple TV... however...

Can I stream ANY movie that I put into my iTunes Library? or only ones that I PURCHASE in iTunes?

in otherwords.. can I add movies I download via filesharing, convert them into iTunes, then stream them to my AppleTV?

Yes you can, in fact I have only one movie bought through iTunes.

Handbrake handles .avi very well. Use the setting above.

Handbrake is good but it uses too much computer resources resulting in my MacBook Pro heating up way more than usual.

I use VisualHub, I think it's the best.

Handbrake

Get the latest nightly built and use High Profile and set RF to 18 and turn off filters.

Its the best setting for the new Apple TV to use.
.

3rd for handbrake.

I have worked through about 100 of my DVD's but i am using the Apple TV preset in HB should i be using your settings above.

I use handbreak also. New black apple TV just arrived. Watching Netflix served by Amazon cloud on Apple TV. *big smile*. They are all doing what they do best.

Starting to play with the new apple TV features. Airplay of HD video from iPhone is a killer feature, but I dont have an iOS4.2b iphone4 in the house. Does it work in 4.2b?

Video over Airplay doesn't work with the iPad/iPhone 4.2 betas yet, I believe the Apple TV itself needs to be updated to 4.2 as well.

Oh yeah to the OP, I recommend Handbrake but Quicktime converts files too. It just doesn't do all the nice stuff that Handbrake does or do it as efficiently.
