Has anyone run into this problem before? I want to keep my Apple TV 4K at 4K SDR and match dynamic range/frame rate so when HDR content is played it will automatically switch to HDR. My Apple TV 4K is switching from 4K SDR to 4K HDR automatically and stays at 4K HDR after I happen to play some HDR or Dolby Vision content. Any thoughts on why this happens and how to prevent it?

P.S.: It would be nice if I could get it to automatically switch to Dolby Vision too, but it doesn't look like that is possible.

You can use custom setting within match dynamic range/frame rate to provide Dolby Vision at 24 Hz for example, which means the interface will come up as 4K Dolby Vision @24 Hz, but if you play HDR 10 content it automatically changes. The same would be true when watching non-HDR content it would output 4K SDR. This is the automatic matching. Provided your setup is 4K HDR10 DV capable.

Something is not working properly because I have mine set at 4k SDR 60 with match range and frame enabled. When I play DV content it triggers the DV logo on my tv and HDR content triggers the TV's HDR logo. When I go back to the home screen, everything reverts back to 4k SDR.

Have you tried updating the OS? Tried different inputs on the tv or receiver? Different HDMI cable?

Thank you very much. This seems to help and is a good workaround. If anyone finds out any other options, please reach out.

Yeah, that what mine is supposed to do with DV 60 and 4K SDR, so yours seems to be switching properly. Yours is switching the resolution based on the source content. I have updated all software (TV, ATV, and also have high-speed HDMI cables).

Yes, mine has always automatically switched from SDR to DV or HDR in order to match the source.

I am using the same Amazon Basics HDMI cable from day 1. The Apple TV output goes to my Anthem receiver and the receiver's output is connected to the TV's ARC port.

I do not have my HDMI cable connected to my ARC port [enhanced port only]. Do you think that could help with this issue? No receiver as I output sound through the TV optical output to a soundbar.

Just tried connecting via the ARC port and that was the fix. Thanks Audit13!

Going into the ARC port shouldn't be necessary.
If you were using it to send audio, then you'd be out of luck.

you might want to check the settings in your TV, as usually you have to enable HDR on a port by port basis (on mine it's called deep color), It's possible if you didn't have it enabled it was causing confusion when it was trying to switch back and forth.
