I can't seem to get a straight answer on this. is there a hardware diff between the original :apple:tv and the new one or is it software/firmware?

sorry if this is stupid, bu i just can't get a definitive answer on the matter.

New software, that's it. The old ones, though, will go back to firmware version v1.whatever if you have to restore them, whereas newer Apple TV units that shipped with v2 (Take 2) will restore back to v2. Not a big deal, but it might be if you hate the new interface... though you'll end up in the dark ages, just like the people who still use OS 9 or oldish versions of OS X.
