I'm new to this forum and I have a question on which I could not find an answer here yet.

I have an Apple TV (1st gen) which is jailbroken with ATV Flash. I have connected a seperate external hard drive over USB which is properly working after installing Nito TV (smart installer). I would like to set the external hard drive as the primary HD for my Apple TV.

However: My (entire) Itunes library is located on my TC (2TB) which is connected with my Imac, Macbook air and Apple TV (ethernet cable).
Now I would like to use the HD from my TC as the external HD for my Apple TV instead of the external HD that is currently connected.

I know I can't use the USB port from the TC to connect with the Apple TV but I would like to know if anyone has experience with using a USB Ethernet converter. (Thus: Connecting USB Port Apple TV with Ethernet Port TC and in that way use the HD of the TC as (external) HD for Apple TV).

Before buying a relatively expensive converter I wanted to ask if anyone has ever tried for this to work. It would be the perfect solution for me having all my data on one location on the TC independently accessible from my Imac, Macbook and Apple TV.

    Looking forward to your repsonses!

Wy would you need the USB->Ethernet when the :apple:TV has a built-in Ethernet already?

If you've hacked your :apple:TV it should be straightforward enough to mount the TC drive and use it.

I'm in the estimation that my ATV can only read from an external HD over USB. My ATV is connected with the TC with an ethernet cable but ATV can't find the external HD of TC in this way. Is there a way I can get around this?

So you play your iTunes library from your TC? how did you do this? I can only get into my TC files in time machine.

No, I actually don't. But I want to try and make it work by connecting the ATV with the TC over an ethernet connection. I am however not sure if ATV will be able to recognize the TC HD.

No. That won't work, the TC will not be recognized as a direct-connect HD through that sort of set up.

Your best bet is to use file sharing. With the ATV Flash hack you can enable sharing features on the Apple TV and stream content from the TC. Of course, the compaibility depends on the format of your files. For example, I don't believe any of the media players loaded thru ATV Flash can play files protected with iTunes DRM (such as purchased movies and TV shows).

Use the media add-on from aTV Flash black? It can access NAS drives, like the Time Capsule.
