Reading comprehension issues? :D

That may be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Did you expect to cancel your HBO subscription with cable and then get it for free on atv?

Hilarious, when in fact what you just asked was one of the dumbest questions I have ever read.

HBO now is an example of an app that's getting it right, unlike the Fox, Nat Geo, etc. apps. With HBO now I can watch the entire HBO library on my ATV for $15 a month, without having to pay DISH, or DirecTV, or Comcast $100+ per month for the rest of the filler crap.

If the other channels, like NatGeo, etc. would offer their streaming app for something like a couple of bucks a month, which is what they're worth I might subscribe to the ones that made themselves compelling enough. In the meantime I have no desire or use for an app that requires me to subscribe to cable television in order to watch it. If I have to subscribe to cable why bother downloading the app?

Time for that afternoon flat white... ;)

Oh how nice of you. Hey apple, there's this thing called youtube. not sure if you've heard about it yet.

Maybe siri could talk to text for this app or any app INSTEAD OF TAKING AN HOUR TO TYPE SOMETHING IN.

2016 and we're still clicking letters individually like I'm setting up a game of Zelda...

Having search include a) local iTunes content, b) family-shared content, and c) Plex would be ideal - but my impression is that the search processing happens on the server-side, not locally... just like Siri on the iPhone, which won't work without a network connection. So unless/until these local services are updated to support (at the very least) a cloud-based index, we won't get universal searching of them anytime soon.

I have cut the cord, and a lot of the channels on the Apple TV (and other streaming devices) require me to have a cable subscription to use them. Which makes their streaming device app stupid and useless.
Take it up with the content providers, not the companies providing the technology....

We have 2 users associated with our Apple TV. We were once young and not yet aware that one another existed, so we were foolish and purchased content from Apple individually. Now that we have met and in fact living together we have to constantly manually switch between users to reach movies and tv shows that we purchased over the years. It would be GREAT if Apple would at least allow the system to search both, it would be EVEN BETTER if Apple allowed 2 people to be logged in at the same time. So if I want to buy/rent a movie I can select my username OR if my bf wanted to buy/rent a movie he could just choose his username.

The Apple TV seems to be a product for individual users or single income earning families. So young people who get married can't share content with one another without constantly switching back and forth between settings and the movie section.

Whoever writes up those descriptions of shows and films should be fired. Absolute trash.
Referencing the one about X-files... using past tense instead of present... it's a show, not historical events. The show will always exist. Listing out 4 agents full names is a waste of nearly 2 lines of copy in a body only showing 6 lines of text before having to scroll below the fold with "more". I get nearly nothing out of the read. And this happens to be a halfway decent write up... some of them are beyond horrible, with listing "Academy Award Winner for Best Motion Picture, Best Actor, Best Apple TV write up" on repeat with like 5 words splitting the body copy – awful.

Universal search, which allows users to find content across multiple apps and services using text or Siri voice search, is one of the most useful features on the new fourth-generation Apple TV. At launch, universal search worked with iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and Showtime, but Apple promised to expand the feature to include additional content sources over time.

Apple has made good on that promise. As of today, searching for content on the Apple TV will encompass the aforementioned apps along with FOX NOW, FXNOW, and National Geographic. Apple also expanded universal search to include PBS and PBS Kids in January.

Apple maintains a full list of apps that are included in the Apple TV's universal search feature in a dedicated support document. The new channels aren't listed yet, but should be added to the document in the near future.

Universal search across iTunes, HBO GO, HBO NOW, Hulu, Netflix, PBS, PBS Kids, Showtime, Showtime Anytime, FOX NOW, FXNOW, and NAT GEO is limited to Apple TV users who are located in the United States. Content from these apps will be displayed when a user asks Siri to find a movie or television show or conducts a text-based search.

In Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the UK, universal search only encompasses movies and TV shows on iTunes and Netflix, and with all other countries, search is only available for movies in iTunes.

Apple plans to continue opening up its universal search API to additional apps going forward.

[doublepost=1454628847][/doublepost]The probably copied the description from IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes like they do with movies.

the un-usefulness of siri in "certain" countries.

Apple has a weird way to doing things. I reckon they restrict on purpose.. just to get me angry.. There is no reason why it can't launch universally at once.

Sounds like when you cut the cord you didn’t have a plan. Nothing new here concerning cable subscriptions being a requirement.
HBO now is an example of an app that's getting it right, …snip
And how long did it take HBO to get to that point?
Save you the trouble.

HBO first launched HBO Go 2-18-2010, which required a cable subscription.

HBO Now launched 4-7-2015

Hasn’t even been available cable free for a year and it took over 5 years for HBO “to get it right”.
If the other channels, like NatGeo, etc. would offer their streaming app for something like a couple of bucks a month,
Couple bucks here, couple of bucks there, next thing you know you have a cable subscription price.
which is what they're worth
Might be best to review your cord cutting plan, you won’t see the “couple of bucks” pricing you are looking for in the short term.

Waiting for the day when I can control Apple TV with Siri from my watch. Since Siri lives in the cloud, I never understood why that didn't work with the previous Apple TV. Seems like it would be another selling point for both devices. And...another plus for Apple's ecosystem.

Now just to get it to search my iTunes library on my computer! Can that be so hard? Please, Apple?
I am with you all the way. Can you believe that Apple can't search its' own iTunes movie library on my computer. I don't expect all of the info, I just want it to be able to bring the movie up by name or genre and be able to play it. Does Apple really listen to its' customers any more?

Universal search lets me down most of the time and I resort to using Google on my Mac or my iPad to find what I want to watch on Hulu or Netflix then I mirror it to my Apple TV. Not just once, not just a handful of times, but most of the time.

Um. This expansion is utterly useless as it only applies to specific shows within these added apps. For example, a Siri search for "American Horror Story" pulls up FX Now as an option but a similar search for "American Crime Story" (People vs. O.J. Simpson) only pulls up iTunes. What is the point of that? Nothing universal about this ...

I just got a message notifying me that Acorn TV started today. I was about to cancel the free trial subscription because it only worked on my iPad. They carry great English series for $4.99/month. I'm in.
