anything that requires an OTA aerial is a no go for me. I don't live far from a major US city but the reception is terrible.

Get a different antenna. antennaweb.org is great at deciding which one you need. I am near major city but due to this valley i'm in it kills reception. So I have a 12' antenna in the attic with an amp on the line and I get all the channels.

Go for it!

I ditched Cable\Sat and now get local stations with TiVO OTA, then use Netflix, Amazon Video (via airplay). You can subscribe to Hulu, HBO, and Showtime and get these on ATV.

What is still falling short is sports, but you can get most of the sports on Sling\ESPN. No ATV app yet (maybe soon). Or, if you have a friend with a cable subscription, you can login to ESPN and other ATV apps with that.

It would sure be nice if a few more standalone subscriptions were available on ATV, like ESPN

No. I am too much of a sports watcher to switch away from DTV. I also watch two or three games at once. I will have two games in the buffer on DTV and switch to ATV for another.

I love the ease of changing channels.

We cut the cord, but Apple TV by itself is not enough. Fortunately Smart TV has Amazon Prime app. There are a few things I miss, but at the ridiculous price that Comcast was charging for a bunch of stuff I'll never watch, I can be patient.

That's the secret to cord cutting! I still don't undesrand people's tendency to think of everything "There only can be one" in choosing TV streaming devices!

Sure... cancel it, you don't need cable.
Yep, Apple TV4, Netflix + Amazon Prime + HD antenna gives me plenty of choice and everything I want (except HBO). Because of this I have saved lots of $$$. I cut the cord over 3 years ago and haven't looked back. Time Warner was bought by Charter and I heard of some changes coming down the line, so I will reevaluate again this summer, but for now I am a very happy camper :)

That's a lot of money for a cheap antenna like that. You can do better;

We added AppleTVs to all of our TVs because I like the ease of it. However... I have an Amazon Fire Stick that I bought when they were released and offered to Prime members for $19.... We have 2 Xbox Ones because "someone" needed the new one when it came out, then never got around to selling his original one.... and we have an Xbox 360 that we kept because we have all the guitar hero/rock band instruments and if we want to stream amazon prime... we need one of those... .or can do airplay....

But AT is our go to....

We replaced our 2x FIOS DVR and 2x STB with 8 ATV 4's. We love the 1 box 1 remote and all TV's are exactly the same. Plus now we support all 8 instead of just 4. We also have 2x HDHomeRun Primes with Cable Cards. We are not opposed to buying TV Content from the Cable Company at the right price. We just don't like being gauged for the hardware. I think most will find that the content from the likes of Vue and Sling TV is not going to be much cheaper (if any) and give all of the content we want. I think going forward it will simply be a mix of content from multiple providers. I also prefer not to use OTA Antenna.

I still have TV with my Comcast internet. I signed a 2 year deal back in September. The only thing I watch on TV are the Bronco games. I have no data cap on Comcast here.

Everything else, I buy on iTunes or get elsewhere. I'm still using an ATV2.

If you can get a cable login from a family member it is possible. My agreement is that I pay for Netflix, and share login with a friend. I also give my friend $10 per month for HBO.

I get to stream a lot of sports through NBC sports, and ESPN app.

I also have a nvidia shield with kodi, so if I really need to find something you can easily find some grey area streams.

But the US doesn't have real football...
Theres no way people could even consider "cutting the cord" outside the US, and apples stupid policy on providers means the outlook is not good for at least another 10 years.

You can if you live in a nordic country,we have this thing called ViaPlay,a streaming service offering film ,series, live sport, they stream all EPL,CL,La Liga ,Seria A and Ligue 1 football ,plus NFL,NHL,UFC and F1 ,ATV4 app and costs 269kr/monthly($41)

My girlfriend and I only have Internet and subscribe to Netflix for our movies and shows fix. There's only a select few shows we follow and we don't mind waiting until their season sets are cheap. Our internet also includes NHL game centre and Shomi for free which is a nice plus as I can get my sports fix. Eveverything we watch is now through the Apple TV, which also has Infuse Pro with my personal NAS server set up on.
