The Apple TV is over $100 more because it's Apple, and that means you pay the "Apple tax."

I had three Apple TVs and eventually sold them all, replacing them with Firesticks. The Apple TV interface was slow and kept crashing on me, the remote is utter trash, and I just got frustrated with the whole experience; as far as I'm concerned the Apple TV project never moved out of that "hobby" status that Steve Jobs first described it as being. The Firestick does everything I need. It's got a quick, well-organized interface, and now that there's an AppleTV App that you can download on the Firestick, I can use it to watch all the iTunes Store content that I've bought over the years.

I disagree. The remote is quite good you just need to learn to use it, and I rarely have mine crash on me.

Fire TV 4K:
- Cheap
- Youtube 4K

Apple TV 4K:
- Touchpad remote (I won't trade this for anything else)
- Snappier.
- Intuitive UI.
- No Youtube 4K (pain in the ass)

4K Smart TV:
- No additional cost.
- Youtube 4K.
- Junky UI.
- Painfully slow.

2019 samsung UHD smart TV in my home can do all things but I'm using the Apple TV 4K for the touchpad in the Siri remote. The tv is painfully slow and all of remote apps in App store are suck. Fire TV do much better than the junky smart tv processor but I couldn't live without the touchpad. Youtube 4K is a big pain but I can use the smart tv app for that.

My parents have a smart TV but choose to use the Apple TV instead attached to it.

I have an Apple tv and 2 Firesticks.

I have no issue with the Firesticks but the are a bit limited in the apps you might want to download.
If you just want Netflix and Prime you are not going to have a problem but for other apps, they may well not work- it depends what you want to use.
I've never really had a problem with them
Apple TV works with many more apps and you can also rent or buy movies and it is a top quality expereince as it should be.

I hate the remote though and yes, I do know how to use it. It overshoots, or doesn't pick up your motion up and down and I have configured another remote to work with it. I really hate it and I don't hate many things.

But there are Android boxes that might suit you well. They have a greater range of apps than the Firestick, faster processors can run up to 8K TV, and are not much more than a Firestick.

I was a Network Cisco Tech and hated you computer guys! You couldn’t tell what darn Port is on your computer and aren’t smart enough to read the printing on Ethernet Cables! Plus stick a Linux or Mac Seriver and computer guys seem to get a blank stare on your face! Just knowing one computer system is the best way to get you fired in Today’s Small business economy using Linux Servers because no small business wants to pay the New Yearly Fees of new MicroSoft Server Software!

I have no earthly idea what you're talking about and I'm honestly not sure if your post is misquoting/criticizing me or is in support of what I said. I've been a Windows user for nearly 30 years, a Mac user for over 20, have worked in *nix environments, and I'm overall familiar and comfortable with a host of operating systems and eco-systems. I do all my own networking, have done work on routing and switching equipment, and not only can I "read the printing on Ethernet cables" but I've often made (terminated) my own cables and ran them where they needed to go. I pretty much do it all and have worked with it all, and at home, Apple is still my personal preference for MOST things. Not sure where you're getting the impression that I "just know one computer system"; the people who blindly align themselves with only one company's products (see quote below) and refuse to acknowledge when someone else has something good to offer are exactly the kind of people I'm criticizing in the first place.

And yet, people question why the Apple TV is so 'expensive' and that the Amazon FireCrap or Google does more.
There is ALWAYS a reason when something is 'dirt' cheap. Great performing and honest technology is not cheap. If it's £40 and then heavily discounted, there is ONE reason. That reason is YOU are the product!
But then again, so many people just can't understand this.

Yet more sanctimonious, hyperbolic nonsense from "BODYBUILDERPAUL."

I've got both. There's only one app I need that I can get on my fire that I can't get on Apple, and that's HDHomerun, which works with the outdoor antenna. I wouldn't need it at all if I could get the CW live on YouTube TV. But that's a separate issue.

That’s all do is criticize other people and talk bad about Apple TV! You seem to like to argue all the time! Other’s here want to talk about feature, problem systems, video troubles and future wanna in ew Apple TV’s! If you hate all Apple TV’s then why are here, to rub salt into people?

Again, no earthly idea what you're talking about. I've been a member of these forums since 2003. I'm not "arguing," and the only person I've criticized is the one guy in these forums who is incapable of having an intelligent conversation, comparing products without hyperbolizing everything and making it seem like Apple is incapable of doing any wrong, of which I'm not the only one to accuse him.

I'll say it again: I am an Apple guy. My wife and I both have iPhones, I have an iPad, AirPods, and I'm typing this reply on a shiny new 3-week-old 2019 model iMac. Apple has one product in their lineup that I'm not a fan of (Apple TV), because I feel it still hasn't graduated from "hobby" status and hasn't been given the attention it truly deserves. Maybe one day it'll get there and I'll try again. I'll also mention (as I have in other threads) that I have owned (and eventually sold) every version of the Apple TV that has come out since the very first model.

If you/others are incapable of having a conversation and being open-minded without getting offended, that's your problem. This isn't the "Apple TV super awesome happy everything-is-amazing-all-the-time" forum. There's nothing in the rules that says every comment about an Apple product has to be a positive one, nor should there be, and there have been plenty of posts/replies by me that have been positive ones on this and other forums. Again, this is the kind of behavior that almost validates the cult-like behavior that the "Apple sucks" community references when they talk about Apple users. The people at Apple are not gods, and not everything they do is the best.

Nah dude. He's just calling out those that are incapable of a balanced view. And about time imo.

no he is type that believes there must be ONE Device that must beat another! The real trick is realize that the real trick is use both and don’t limit yourself!

Dude, is there a carbon monoxide leak in your house or something? Have you actually read anything I've typed?

Again, you're wrong and you're really just grasping at straws now. I have lots of equipment in my house, all from different vendors: multiple computers, screens, audio visual equipment, etc. Unlike certain other people in these forums, I don't believe there's one device that "must beat another." I believe in using the best tool (or tools) for the job...sometimes it'll be from this vendor, and sometimes it'll be from that vendor. I've tried most of them and when it comes to streaming media players at this point I personally don't believe Apple TV is the one. Furthermore, I'm not going to have more than one media player and switch between the two because it's pointless and only accomplishes over-complicating things for others in the household. Why do that when the device I'm using does everything I need?

I have an Apple TV 4, Apple TV 3. In the past I had the original Apple TV. I also have a chromecast and fire TV stick. The chromecast I bought when it was on sale for £20. The fire stick was a gift.

The Apple TV has been my main streaming device since I first got an Apple TV 2009. Over the years the interface and experience has gotten better. 6 months ago we cut the cord and went streaming only. However before that we hadn’t even turned out cable box on for over a year, we were just using our Apple TV’s. We buy a lot of content from iTunes, so coupled with the pleasing and easy to navigate interface it’s out default streaming device. Furthermore, I live in the Apple ecosystem. I have an iphone, 2 ipads, an Apple Watch, A HomePod, a MacBook and AirPods. All of these integrate better with an Apple TV than with another streaming device. My iOS devices and Apple Watch can be used as a remote, my AirPods pair easily to my Apple TV, I can share my music library from my mac to my Apple TV, I can view my iCloud photo library on my Apple TV. I Can airplay from any of my devices. This all works seamlessly, there are no work arounds or third party apps required.

I’ve had the fire stick for about 2 years. I’ve never liked it. The interface is ugly and messy. I’m a prime subscriber but I prefer to use the prime TV app on the Apple TV. Prior to that I preferred to use AirPlay on the Apple TV. It was a gift and that’s the only reason why it’s still connected to the TV.

The Chromecast is used occasionally, simply because I have a google home mini in my living room and when I’m feeling lazy I can get the google home to turn on my TV and start playing TV shows form Netflix. If my HomePod could do the same with my Apple TV my chromecast wouldn’t get used at all.

What are the main differences between an Apple TV and an Amazon Firestick? Why is the Apple TV over $100 more? I own an Amazon Firestick and was wondering what the advantages would be in owning an Apple TV?

well, my Amazon Fire Stick 4K cost like $40-50 and the Apple TV costs like $150+. I don't really buy digital content very much because of how it makes owning media so ephemeral. I just went with the cheaper option(fire stick) because it probably works just as fine as anything more expensive at providing access to streaming services. I have a PLEX media server at home for anything else. Also, I don't think there is a Twitch channel for any other streaming box beyond Amazon's own crap.
