Sorry perezr10, I tried to list my "creds", but was censored by the MacPlantation. They said I was "advertising". I always considered myself an horrible salesman. Too much factual information causes the potential client's head to swim and can hurt businesses like Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Apple.
Honestly "MacPlantaion". What is this foolery? Do you think you are producing Thurber-like bon mots? Please take a second to read what you write. It is interminably awful. Not a ounce of sense of factual information.

Indeed, a word salad of guessing and uninformed speculation. Particularly amused by the "additional processing which degrades performance".
Sorry James, that my reply caused yours to also be censored. I do enjoy Apple products; I just don't jack to them. Right now, I am using an Airport Express for this reply, because the guys that designed it were released from the MacPlantation and were able to make something better called, Eero. It was temporarily sold out at my vendor, so I gave mine to one of my clients. Except for gamers, Airport stuff worked quite well for years and is working right now.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Unfortunately neither do you. Why are you talking about jacking? What on earth is a MacPlantaion? Seek help.

Ok, I will try to focus for you: Seeking help or any suggestions on preferred Airport Express settings to enable the best Airplay2 performance with this device.

Genuine knowledgeable response IS appreciated!

I have Samsung and Sony TVs (Android & Google TV). The Samsung UI is sluggish and not many apps are available through their App Store. The Sony UI is more responsive but offers many suggested contents from all installed apps which are ridicule with ads and washed out look on the Home Screen and some Wi-Fi issue. However, there is an app only section on the Sony TV. The storage capacity is more lower on those smart TV as well. I have to use two different remotes to control the TV and sound bar.

The Apple TV unified the experience by combining the sound bar volume control and power function of the TV. There is wider selection of apps and ability to use the iPhone as input when searching, typing or entering password. With the lowest storage 32 GB, there is much more rooms for apps. The Apple TV app can search for specific title through installed apps and display it in “How to Watch” section to launch that content in the respective app. However, it doesn’t show results from media server like Plex. It offers a better experience than Smart TV interfaces.

What does this have to do with the subject at hand? In what way is your issue with a long discontinued product relevant to a discussion about Apple TV vs Smart TVs?

Wow! Let's try again before the moderator pulls this one out from under me. To the moderator: Try not to be so defensive. People are not that sensitive, and most posters on this site will continue to line up for the latest offering from Apple.

The AppleTV device will eventually be long discontinued after Apple is able to rest more control from Google on its platforms. Apple is not likely to release an AppleTV App if it doesn't perform as well as all the others. I am more likely to use an AppleTV device for its Airplay2 connectivity and not even connect it to a monitor. However, the systems I usually deal with require an HDMI audio extractor plus a DAC to feed high-end power amplification. The Airport Express can plug right in with a simple 3.5mm stereo jack.

Trying to start a more specific thread just caused server error messages. Existing threads did not add to my knowledge. Do they not want me to talk about products that can no longer be purchased through Apple's cash register? Now that! is a "guess", albeit, well educated and informed.

I doubt it's a matter of sensitivity. I'd be surprised if people could follow your train of thought. It's simply a mix of unsubstantiated assertions, pointless anecdotes and off topic requests.

"...rest control from Google", "...HDMI audio extractor plus a DAC". What is this???

Are you suggesting that Apple somehow monitors the Macrumors Forums to delete discussions it disapproves of? Is that a thing you are suggesting? Seriously?? Does that sound like something a "well educated and informed" person would suggest?

It would be difficult and tedious to address the numerous inaccurate claims here. But let's just say your take on reality is at odds with others of us with deep technical experience and expertise. But you're in the business to make a buck so that definitely resets priorities.
“Data-mining is no less intense on Apple products as any other. Likewise, the only reason Apple products are not hacked as much as others, is because they would rather spend their baseless lives on a larger audience.”

There are Apple haters out there (just as there are Apple lovers) and they will throw anything at the wall to try to make more haters(there are, ahem, also paid trolls in every corner of the internet). One needs only to look at Kulabd’s silly post and it’s attempt to hate(coerce). Step 1, appeal to authority (he’s an “authorized” dealer of AppleTV and Sony — consider the reality of that statement). Next, take an obvious differentiator benefit and glibly negate it (he’s “authorized” so he knows “data mining” is actually just as bad with Apple — though that’s an easily proven falsehood). Next differentiator benefit, the stellar lack of comparative malware for Apple devices. This is simply because there just isn’t enough Apple products out there to make internet bad guys take notice — that’s obviously all it is (listen to him, he’s “authorized”).
FYI,I own a Sony Bravia (see my previous posts I mention this). Great Tv and as I mentioned, good app performance so far). Sony’s app platform is Android. Huh, I guess he’s on an Apple board saying Android is best (notice it’s without mentioning Android).

A posting board is open to pretty much say what you want. So it can be a subterfuge free for all. It’s important, however, for others to point it out and drive axe grinders/paid trolls to their next screen name and new attempts to appeal to authority et al. The last one was a pretty text book but amateur attempt.

My friend works for a high end home theater, and automation company.

The apple TV 4k is now pretty much standard in all of their installs.

Much happier customers when they can control everything through the remote app on the iPad, that also controls the rest of their home, vs a overly complicated series of macros that break all the time.

He was showing me a neat system they set up where they plug in several apple TVs to a HDMI matrix, and pipe them out to all the TVs in the house via HDMI over Ethernet.

I doubt he would ever advocate for his clients to use the built in apps on the TVs over HDMI ARC.

Thanks, I didn't have the energy. But I also believed that the individual here invalidated their claims increasingly the more they posted. Glad you chimed in and said what many of us were thinking.

Thanks Hoo Doo.
I actually try to refrain from replying to these mad axe grinder posters especially when it comes to Apple. Their posts are like reading petulant children saying anything to get their way. As it goes on their posts get more widespread baseless and OT. But we each have to take a turn in hell :) (“a smart man once said he’ll is the impossibility of reason”).

Hey, not to be confused with those who have differing views on Apple products. There are tangible conversational standpoints to be made on why, for example, Roku or Android are a better choice. I like joining those conversations. But,as you said, the more this particular individual poster spoke the more conspicuously baseless and ad hominems it revealed. Hopefully this person is being paid as an Astro. Ootherwise that’s just kinda unfortunate to see someone hanging at an Apple board to throw everything and the kitchen sink at the wall, desperately trying to show ‘waaa! Apple bad!’

Sooo touchy! Say anything on here that's not blatantly Apple-biased and your a "hater"?

Troller? Yes...for useful info...not going to happen here it appears. At least you seem to be able to comprehend compound sentences - Jimmyjames may need your help. Your Apple daze, however, has you thinking I said Android is the best. My experience has had the Google creation called, "Android", crashing Bravia TV's repeatedly. Yes, I handle a lot of TV's. I've even had XBR's bricked by doing firmware updates; and a few bricked themselves right out of the box with their first automated update!

Please help Jimmyjames with this info:

HDMI audio extractors and DAC's may be obtained from many companies, including Zigen, Altona, SnapAV, WireStorm, Monoprice...you will have to break out of the Apple-Daze to see them, however.

Soooo, before we go off topic again as to why we need to hate on apple, which I have done in the past (iPhone 12 Pro and never getting texts, but was fixed 2 months later through an update) I recently purchased a Sony X90CJ and was comparing the picture quality on the built in apps VS the new Apple TV 4K (2nd gen) and it TOTALLY BLOWS the built in apps away. Once the Apple TV gets set to dolby vision..... it is insanely beautiful. I was however researching if I did something wrong, which might be affecting the picture performance on the built in apps. My guess is the processing power and the AX wifi found on the Apple TV (Yes, I do have an Eero 6 pro) Sorry, long story short, I would like to know if there is something to be done with the settings or is the Apple TV THAT MUCH BETTER OVERALL?

Provided the picture settings are set the same for the  TV input on your tv and for the built in apps, then yes it shows that the higher bitrate the  TV is able to get is translating into a better picture. I have the same experience on my  TV vs my LG OLED E7 built in apps.

Is there any real benefit in getting the new Apple TV once released given that Smart TVs have the same streaming apps ??

Obviously there's a few extra benefits like the Apple Arcade and other Apple related apps but does that even justify its cost?

Apple TV doesn't have ads on it.. you have control what it shows on the Home Screen, speed also.
I've been so impressed with the new Apple TV 4K I got my mum for her birthday, I've sold the Shield TV to put the money towards an Apple TV 4K for myself at Christmas.
Using a Fire TV 4K stick in the meantime.

But between my Sony OLED which has Google TV (it has awful WiFi so I don't use it's smart features), Fire TV and Shield TV for me Apple TV is a very clear winner and it's very fast too and go between apps incredibly smoothly.

I will add though I only stream my media, I don't have a NAS or emulate games etc.

Sorry if this is off-topic, but to get the best out of the ATV 4K one would require a top class HDMI cable. Would this Belkin cable sold by Apple get the best out of the ATV?

Personally, I’ve had good experiences with Amazon Basics HDMI cables. Those are available with similar/identical specifications as the Belkin you listed for about 1/3 of the price. If you feel more comfy with a brand name, though, go with the Belkin or another, even more expensive brand.

As long as an HDMI cable is specified for 4K (and if you need it for your setup, also for ARC/Ethernet), there shouldn’t be much difference between products on the aTV.

The biggest problem is the TV processing power. It’s why it slows down. Any processing power your built in app is absorbing is taking away from picture processing. Use the AppleTV. AppleTV isn’t going anywhere. If anything it will continue to grow with vastly superior features to what you’ll get on a TV app. The built in TV App is nothing more than a convenience item for those not concerned about picture quality.

Thanks! I’ll look at HDMI cables on Amazon. The user reviews should indicate whether they are good or not.
