When you go into Apple TV (directly), there is an option to scroll down and select an app, say Paramount+ and sign into it. Thus, your subscription is then via Apple, versus directly with Paramount (just learned this yesterday).

Curious, do you use those apps embedded directly in Apple TV, or do you install the streaming apps you want, then log into them that way?
In short, is there any benefit to using the streaming apps from within Apple TV, versus those you install on the Apple TV device?

Seriously, I hope that makes sense...

I think you have to download the streaming apps even if you launch them from Apple TV app as you describe
Hmm, not sure about that.

I was testing this, and I had Paramount+ app installed. So, I uninstalled it, and was still able to launch it from the Apple TV app.

Just not sure of the benefit (besides not installing apps) of using Apple TV directly, versus the specific apps.

There are some streaming apps that you can watch content directly via the Apple TV app. I believe they are called channels. Paramount+ is one service you can subscribe to directly via the TV app — AMC+ is another. Most streaming services (ie. Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc.) do not offer a channel within the TV.

Hopefully that is what you are referring to?

...spot on! Thanks for the details.

There is no difference... you have to go through the AppleTV App Store to get apps like Netflix, Paramount+, Hulu, etc... there's no way to "side load" the apps. You do, however, have a choice in how you subscribe and/or pay for the subscription... of course, if you subscribe through the AppleTV app (or iOS app), Apple takes a 30% cut (15% after the first year).

when I had subscription for HBO-MLB-Peacocks last month
I could use the tv app to watch shows or games instead of clicking the host ones.

if this helps

Thanks all for the info.

Since I have funds on my Apple account, I am thus using said funds to pay for some subscriptions. So, the Apple TV subscription process helps.
