Apple TV 3 with latest updates, and a 17" MBP Intel Core 2 Duo (2.8 GHz) running latest version of Mavericks.

The ATV3 won't wake up the mac. So when I go to "Computers" on the ATV3, I will get a message saying I need to start Homesharing on my mac, even though my mac is on and has iTunes and homesharing running. The problem is that my mac goes to sleep. So to solve it I have to get up off the couch, walk over to my mac, and hit the keyboard to wake it up, at which point the Apple TV can see the Homeshared content again.

This did not used to be the case. It used to be that my ATV3 would just wake up the mac if it was asleep. Not anymore. I definitely have "wake for network access" checked in the Energy Saver system preferences pane. I wonder if this is a Mavericks bug?

Interesting.... I never noticed this myself. I have a 2010 Mac mini with mavericks. Do you think its maybe because of the hardware?

(It's unclear why checking the "wake on lan" box in system preferences is not having the desired effect, but the above terminal command worked for me!)
I must add, that it seems to be so, that even after using this pmset command, the wake on lan works only when MBP is connected to AC power. When left on battery, it seems to fall into deep sleep and won't wake no matter how hard you try.

Well, all I know is the wake on lan setting worked fine before I updated to Mavericks, so I'm going with my hypothesis that it is a Mavericks bug.

I suppose it may be hardware specific. .. It affects my 2009 MBP 17" (2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo).

I have the same issue. All worked fine prior to Mavericks and now it does not. 2 Apple TV (3rd Gen) and a 2012 MB Air, 2012 cMBP or Late 2012 iMac won't wake now since the Mavericks upgrade...

Did the above fix work for you?
