Hi all
I have bought an atv4 a week ago, on receiving it I found when playing Netflix and music I notice that the sound cuts out for a second intermittently, I returned the atv4 for an exchange, just set up the new one and am having the same issue, I find it unlikely to have received 2 faulty devices so am wondering if it is a set up issue, when setting up I did it by pairing through my phone and it is wired with an Ethernet cable to my time capsule, any ideas on what could be causing this.
Thanks in anticipation

Is it your HDMI cable, or maybe your receiver?

I haven't had any sound issues with my aTV4, other than the fact that it's quieter than my aTV3.

Check to see if it is a buffering issue. That's what I'm experiencing.

Thanks both for replies, I can change the hdmi cable, if it was a hdmi cable or buffering would it affect the picture as well? when watching Netflix there was no issue with the picture, I also downloaded an app from the store and when I test download speed it was over 15mbps which I thought was good and wouldn't cause buffering.

The sound is through a Sonos playbar connected to the tv, when I watch normal tv or music through Sonos app the issue doesn't occur it only seems to happen when the atv4 is being used, also before I returned the 1st atv4 I reconnected my atv3 and I didn't have the issue it is just the atv4

You are not alone. I have the exact same problem with my new Apple TV 4. I don't know how to fix this. Anyone?

Me too! I've found that if I switch to TV for a bit then back to Apple TV it comes back for a bit.

thanks for both your replies, i have the atv4 connected through hdmi to tv and a sonos playbar connected to the same tv via optical cable, this is in my living room downstairs. router wise i have a router connected to the phone line with a time capsule connected via ethernet to the router. Upstairs i have a tv wirelessly connected to the router, with an atv3 connected wirelessly to the router too, no sonos gear connected
I have swapped all hdmi cables etc and no result
I took the atv4 upstairs, checking first i had no issue with the sound through atv3 on the upstairs tv which was fine, i connected the atv4 wirelessly to the tv and to the time capsule, the sound issue was not apparent but the atv4 kept loosing the internet connection, i changed the atv4 to connect to the router and the sound issue had definitely gone and connection was stable, so this morning i have connected the atv4 to the tv downstairs and then wireless to the router not the time capsule hoping this would resolve it, turns out it doesn't.

It seems there is some sort of issue with the atv4 and sonos playbar, by trying it with a tv with no sonos attached to the tv there is no issue, if connected to a tv with sonos the atv4 connected either wireless or ethernet the issue is definitely there, i am going to call sonos support to see if they can assist and if not the atv4 will have to go back to apple, this is a shame as i liked the idea but the sound interruption is to annoying to overlook so it will be back to the atv3.
If anyone else has any ideas or can see some obvious issue with my set up please let me know
Thanks
Bruce

The Sonos community is rife with audio dropout issues with a number of devices. People have had success with varying methods, none of which seem to be a universal solution.

But just for the sake of trying, one common issue is the Sonos having difficulty with Dolby Digital+ signals, try setting the Apple TV output to Stereo in the Audio and Video Settings. Another common solution people try is changing their routers channel to something other than what it's currently set to.

Thanks trueblou, will give the atv4 settings audio change a go as that's something I can do quite easily, re the router channel any ideas on how I do this, I am not an advanced it person so will speak with Sonos about this. I haven't had issues with my Sonos or Apple gear in sometime , normally it all works fine so this is disappointing

I contacted Apple and someone from their support called me from the US and he went through those steps, hopefully it'll cure your issue
